Position Information
The City is looking for two safety-conscious employees to work in the Parks and Trees Divisions of Public Works-Operations and Maintenance. This is a temporary (50 weeks) full-time position with medical, dental, and vision insurance options as well as accumulated paid sick leave.
Definition / Distinguishing Characteristics
Under supervision, to perform a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks in the routine operation of public facilities; to operate Type C power driven equipment; to perform related duties as required.
Class Characteristics
This is a trainee position in the maintenance series of classifications. After appropriate training and experience, the Maintenance Aide could reasonably expect to be promoted to Maintenance Worker unless a permanent Maintenance Aide position has been established.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May drive dump truck and other similar Type C power driven equipment.
Environmental Conditions
While performing the duties of the job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
