Description
The City of Laguna Beach is excited to announce that we are accepting applications to fill the position of Maintenance Aide in our Public Works & Utilities Department. The Maintenance Aide play a vital role in keeping our city clean, safe, and beautiful. This position may be assigned to one or more divisions, including Street Maintenance, Building and Facilities, Landscape Maintenance and Urban Forestry, or Fleet Maintenance. The current vacancy is in the Landscape Maintenance and Urban Forestry division.
What Youll Do
Assist with all phases of landscape maintenance including raking, weeding, trimming, plant replacement, and landscape improvements.
Working outside along street medians, buffers, as well as in parks and trails.
Assist maintenance staff with a variety of basic tasks- duties will vary according to job assignment.
Clean and sanitize park and trail amenities and remove debris and litter from facilities, landscape features, trails, and parks.
Recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
Provide information, instructions, and assistance to the public within the scope of authority and training.
Support the relationship between the City of Laguna Beach and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of one year general maintenance, construction or repair work experience. Experience in driving larger vehicles is desirable, as is basic knowledge of simple hand tools and basic mechanical skills.
License/Certificate Requirements: A valid California Drivers license and an acceptable driving record are required. A valid California Class B Drivers license is desirable.
Must be at least 17 years of age to be hired as a Laborer III and at least 18 years of age for Laborer IV.
Supplemental Information
Application/Selection Process: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with a first review on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Applications will be screened carefully and selected candidates will be invited to undergo a department interview. The appointed hiring authority will further review the job-related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions.
Pre-Placement Process: The selected candidate must successfully pass a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice and a pre-placement physical and drug test.

Benefits for Laguna Beach Hourly/Part-Time Employees
The basic pay ranges are composed of either five (5), seven (7) or eight (8) steps.
Overtime Pay: All employees shall be compensated at a rate of time and a half for all hours worked in excess of forty hours per work week.
Retirement: Eligible employees are enrolled into the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). This program requires an employee contribution of 3.75% of base pay. The City matches your contribution for total of 7.5%.
Sick Leave: Employees receive 40 hours of sick leave annually, provided each July.
