Description

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking a qualified Maintenance and Operations Crew Chief. The selected incumbent will be responsible for leading a crew of (2) to (8) employee's daily to complete assigned citizens request from the supervisor. The position requires the Crew Chief to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, gradall, bobcat, front end loader, skid steer, track hoe, ditch master, excavator, Vactor Truck and operating Commercial Vehicles and trailers over 10,000lbs at time. Additionally, the Maintenance and Operations Crew Chief wtrain and develop equipment operators, maintenance workers, and maintenance specialists (masons) with on the job training.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Lead crew to complete pipe installation, easement cleaning, vegetation removal, storm water basin cleaning, cavitation repairs, asphalt, concrete and brick restoration.

  • Take written measurements onsite of work completed, material used and work accomplished. Enter data in customer relation management computer system

  • Operate heavy equipment and commercial vehicles as needed to support the crew.

  • Train employees on heavy equipment operations and ensure employees are working safely onsite.

  • Complete daily safety briefings onsite and inspect work zone onsite for changes and make necessary corrections.

  • Ensure that confined space entry procedures are followed and trenching and shoring procedures are followed onsite.

  • Using hand tools, chainsaw, weed eater, zero turn mower, pesticide application, haul materials to landfill

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of college or specialized training in area of focus
  • Two years of equipment operation/driving experience or maintenance experience in the area related to assignment
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commercial Driver's License Class A with (N) Tanker Endorsement
  • VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Certification
  • NASSCO Pipeline Assessment Certification
  • First-Aid, CPR and AED Certification

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Some assignments may require a valid Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record
  • Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Drivers License within 30 days of hire
  • Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record

In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
