Description

The City of Richmond, Department of Public Utilities is seeking a qualified Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, Senior to to provide leadership to a crew of approximately 6-8 maintenance employees. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising designated staff within the DPU Storm Water Utility Division. Work will include: making onsite assessments of citizens request, using the computer applications to enter information from assessment, send and receive emails and approving leave application / timecards using internal computer applications. This position is responsible for training employees how to efficiency & safely operator heavy equipment (ex. backhoe, track hoe, ditchmaster, gradall, grader, Vactor Truck, & Sweeper. This position will be directing workflow and developing schedules; maintaining records; participating in long-range planning; making decisions about equipment, materials, and supply usage; managing inventory; and coordinating with contractors, vendors, and other service providers.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Supervising Crew Chiefs, Equipment Operators and Pipeline Technicians that maintain and Maintenance Workers
  • Completing safety inspections of jobsite, vehicles, buildings, and storm water infrastructure
  • Assist Floodwall personnel as a supervisor with Gate Closure and perform (paid) On-Call duty for rain event & other emergencies / urgent request afterhours
  • Create work orders for crew to complete from onsite assessment of assigned citizen's request
  • Completing performance evaluation of crew members
  • Train crew members who operate heavy equipment, drive commercial vehicles and masons that builds structures using stone, brick or concrete
  • Performing maintenance task as needed to support the crew during training and document training
  • Coach, develop, evaluate and lead crew members

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Four years of experience in the assigned area
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Drivers License within 30 days of hire
  • Some assignments may require one or more of the following: a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Drivers License and/or a certification in a skilled trade

The working conditions may include frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions and hazardous materials; occasional exposure to atmospheric conditions, extreme temperatures, intense noise, travel outside the organizations location, and environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
