Position Summary

Performs certified welding and fabrication tasks to maintain, repair, and modify production and utility equipment in a batch specialty chemical plant. Ensures work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

Key Outcomes/Responsibilities

Outcome: Safe & Compliant Welding Execution

Zero safety incidents; 100% compliance with permit-to-work and regulatory requirements.

Actions:

o   Performs welding activities in accordance with ASME, AWS, and site-specific standards.

Follows all safety protocols including hot work permits, PPE, and confined space entry.

Outcome: High-Quality Fabrication & Repairs

>95% first-pass quality rate; <5% rework due to weld defects

Actions:

o   Fabricates and repairs piping, vessels, structural supports, and equipment components using appropriate welding techniques (e.g., TIG, MIG, Stick).

o   Conducts visual and dimensional inspections to ensure weld integrity.

Outcome: Support for Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

On-time completion of scheduled work; reduced downtime due to weld-related failures.

Actions:

o   Executes welding tasks as part of planned maintenance and emergency repairs.

Collaborates with planners and technicians to ensure readiness and alignment with production schedules.

Outcome: Documentation & Traceability

100% documentation accuracy; audit-ready compliance.

Actions:

o   Completes weld logs, inspection records, and job documentation as required by site protocols and regulatory standards.

Maintains certification records and ensures qualifications are current.

Outcome: Continuous Improvement & Reliability Support

Contribution to ≥1 improvement initiative per quarter; reduction in recurring weld-related failures.

Actions:

o   Identifies opportunities to improve weld techniques, material selection, and fabrication methods.

Participates in root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

·       Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent

·       Job Experience:4 - 6 years

·       Technical Skills: Proficiency in TIG, MIG, Stick welding; pipe fitting; blueprint reading; weld inspection

• Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with hot work permitting, confined space entry, and hazardous materials handling
• Systems: Basic CMMS usage for work order documentation (e.g., SAP PM)
