Description:
This is corrections security and maintenance work, performing work associated in the daily maintenance, prevention and repair of the buildings within the Department of Corrections. An employee in this position, through work performed, supports the daily maintenance and general plant operations of the Lehigh County Department of Corrections. This is technical and complex work in a program of building maintenance, heating, plumbing, and general plant operations at a large County correctional institution exceeding one thousand (1000) beds.
An employee in this class is responsible for assisting the Maintenance supervisors and Institutional Maintenance Manager in the upkeep and preservation of building maintenance, heating and utility plant operations. This position reports to the Maintenance Sergeant and Lieutenant.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
Responsible for supporting the cleanliness and function of all areas of the institution. Responds to Level 2 emergencies in the facility.
Communicates professionally and respectfully with inmates, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
OTHER DUTIES:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to remain alert at all times and react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions as well as keep records and write clear and concise reports.

Experience:
Diversified mechanic with experience in building maintenance, and a working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, welding, painting and HVAC systems.
Education:
G.E.D. or High School Diploma
