Must Obtain Secret Clearance
Position Summary
The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in support of Department of Defense facilities and operations. This role ensures all electrical work complies with applicable codes, safety standards, and contract requirements while maintaining mission‑critical infrastructure. The position is located at NPTU Charleston in South Carolina, a cleared facility, and candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance to work on site.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, control systems, panels, switches, breakers, transformers, and motors.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems in accordance with contract requirements and maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose electrical malfunctions using test instruments such as multimeters, megohmmeters, and voltmeters.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA standards, DoD regulations, and site‑specific safety requirements.
- Respond to emergency service calls to support mission‑critical facilities and equipment.
- Conduct inspections to identify hazards, code violations, and system deficiencies; recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and time expended in maintenance management systems.
- Coordinate with other maintenance trades, supervisors, and government representatives as required.
- Follow all security protocols and access control procedures on federal installations.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and required certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of contract objectives.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Obtain and Maintain Base Access/Secret Clearance Required
- Completion of a recognized Electrician Apprenticeship Program or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Maintenance or Industrial Electrician (government or commercial facilities).
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory, systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of NEC, OSHA, and general facility maintenance standards.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required DoD background check and installation access credentials.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, lift up to 25lbs, and work in various environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working on DoD or federal contracts.
- Experience working in secured or mission‑critical environments.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- State or local Journeyman Electrician license.
- Experience with generators, UPS systems, and emergency power systems.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
