    JOB SUMMARY The Hospital Maintenance Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection of electrical systems and equipment that support the safe and continuous operation of healthcare facilities. This position ensures the reliability of critical infrastructure, including emergency power systems, lighting, distribution equipment, fire alarm systems, and other life safety systems, while maintaining compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), Washington State electrical regulations, OSHA standards, and hospital policies. PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned: Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 99 Health Care Facilities Code, and other relevant state and local regulations. Perform preventative maintenance on critical electrical systems, including switchgear, panelboards, transformers, and motor control centers to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Conduct routine inspections, testing, and servicing of the hospitals emergency power supply systems (EPSS), including diesel generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Diagnose and troubleshoot complex malfunctions in electrical systems and components, utilizing testing devices such as voltmeters, ammeters, and oscilloscopes to identify and resolve issues swiftly. Install and service specialized hospital systems, including nurse call systems, patient monitoring equipment electrical feeds, surgical lighting, and medical gas alarm wiring. Respond immediately to emergency calls and power outages, working to restore power to critical patient care areas safely and efficiently. Maintain and repair lighting systems throughout the facility, including interior, exterior, and specialized surgical lighting, often upgrading to energy-efficient LED fixtures. Interpret complex blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to effectively plan and execute installations, repairs, and system modifications. Ensure the integrity of the facilitys grounding and bonding systems, perform tests and make necessary corrections to protect sensitive electronic equipment and personnel. Work directly on isolated power systems within operating rooms and other critical care areas, ensuring they are functioning correctly to mitigate electrical shock hazards. Install new electrical circuits for medical equipment, renovations, and departmental moves, ensuring all work meets code and facility standards. Manage and maintain the electrical distribution system, from the main service entrance down to the individual receptacle, ensuring system reliability and safety. Perform thermal imaging scans on electrical panels and equipment to proactively identify hot spots and potential points of failure before they occur. Follows established department schedule and procedures to ensure compliance with the PreventativeMaintenance Program. Reports malfunction of any/all facility equipment or systems as soon as possible to the Executive Director of Ancillary Services. Responsible for electrical work to include minor electrical wiring, checking and repairing electrical Equipment repairing electrical outlets, breakers, plugs and any other related equipment. Responsible for plumbing work to included checking, testing and repairing the following: Steam Valves and Systems Medical Gas Valves and Systems Fuel Lines and Systems Water Systems and Equipment Control Systems and Equipment Sewer Systems Complete all assignments within established timelines and in accordance with departmental quality standards. Maintain positive communication with all customers, which includes but is not limited to patients, visitors, employees and outside vendors or service technicians. Work the On-Call schedule as assigned. Complete maintenance work orders as assigned in the facilities department. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned: Maintain meticulous records of all maintenance, repairs, and installations, documenting work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other trades on renovation and new construction projects to ensure electrical requirements are met. Assist in developing and implementing energy conservation measures to reduce the hospitals utility costs and environmental footprint. Manage inventory of electrical parts, supplies, and equipment, ensuring critical components are readily available for emergency repairs. Participate in and provide documentation for regulatory compliance audits conducted by The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, and other governing bodies. Provide technical guidance and support to other members of the facilities maintenance team on issues involving electrical systems. Participate in hospital safety committees and emergency preparedness drills, contributing electrical expertise to facility-wide safety protocols. JOB KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS Education Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a state-approved electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualifying experience Training and Experience Code Compliance: Deep understanding of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code), and NFPA 110 (Emergency and Standby Power Systems). Emergency Power Systems: Expertise in testing and maintaining generators, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS). Blueprint Schematic Reading: Ability to read and interpret complex electrical blueprints, one-line diagrams, and control schematics. Low-Voltage Systems: Proficiency with fire alarm, nurse call, security, and building automation systems. Troubleshooting Diagnostics: Advanced skills in using multimeters, circuit tracers, meggers, and thermal imaging cameras to diagnose electrical faults. Motor Controls: Knowledge of motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and control circuits. Isolated Power Systems: Experience working with and maintaining isolated power panels in operating rooms and critical care locations. Working knowledge of Washington State Electrical Code and OHSH/WISHA safety regulations Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Electrician I II (in addition to one of the below required Certifications): Maintain a valid WA State Drivers License. An out of state drivers license will be acceptable in conjunction with a valid US Military ID. Current personal auto insurance and is insurable with the Districts insurance carrier. Washington State driving record upon hire and may be subject to annual driving record checks based on facility insurance carrier requirements. Electrician I Certification Requirement: Valid Washington State Journey Level Electrician (EL01) Certificate of Competency issues by the Washington State Department of Labor Industries Electrician II Certification Requirement: Obtaining a Washington State Master Electricians License OTHER SKILLS ABILITIES Problem-Solving Under Pressure:Ability to remain calm and methodical when diagnosing critical system failures in a high-stakes environment. Attention to Detail:Meticulous approach to work to ensure safety, code compliance, and system reliability, where small errors can have significant consequences. Communication Skills:Ability to clearly communicate technical issues and solutions to non-technical staff, including nurses, doctors, and administrators. Adaptability:Flexibility to respond to emergency calls at any time and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic 24/7 facility.
