The Maintenance Engineer will work the day-to-day maintenance repairs and renovations of the hotel. In addition, the Maintenance Engineer will assist with projects. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Engineer 

  • Perform daily operation of the hotel Engineering needs. 
  • Ensures timeliness and quality of completion of repair work orders.
  • Handle maintenance equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems.
  • Recommends/helps with additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.  
  • Informs and recommends equipment, supplies and furnishings needed to perform job duties. 
  • Assists in inspecting and evaluating the physical condition of the facilities in order to determine the type of work required.
  • Maintains accurate logs and records as required.
  • Operates generators and fire pumps as necessary.
  • Maintain and repair the interior and exterior of buildings, hotel rooms and contents, laundry and kitchen/refrigeration equipment, lighting, heating, air conditioning (HVAC), ventilation, and water treatment systems, and swimming pool/hot tub.
  • Provides emergency response service as needed.
  • Follows all federal, state, and or local safety guidelines. 
  • Follows all PHM guidelines as stated in the Employee Handbook such as, reporting to scheduled shift, report to work on time, reporting absences, have a professional demeanor, etc. 

 

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Able to spark conversations with guests and associates in a professional manner, smile often, and establish relationships in order gain trust and loyalty.
  • Assist with training and or providing guidance to new associates when requested. 
  • Resolve and address all guest and associate questions and or concerns in a creative and professional manner.
  • Report any issues, concerns and or suggestions to management. 
  • Have constant communication with all hotel departments in order to ensure guest satisfaction.  

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The hotel is in a public business atmosphere, which varies temperature based indoor and outdoor climate. While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently works near moving mechanical parts and exposed to electricity, wet/humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

EDUCATION

1-2 years’ experience in engineering/maintenance or related field.

University/College/Technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing preferred. 

WORK EXPERIENCE

1-2 years’ experience in the engineering/maintenance or related field. 

Knowledge

  • Basic computer proficiency, such as answering emails.
  • Have knowledge in refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems.
  • Have knowledge in, electrical, mechanical and carpentry fields.  HVAC and refrigeration certificate, licensed plumber and/or journeyman status for electrician/carpenter may be required.
  • Understand standard accounting principles such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, percentages, etc. 
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents as safety rules (i.e. Lockout-Tag out, JSA’s) safety awareness information (i.e. MSDS) operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Skills 

  • Strong English business communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills such as listening, smiling, relating, asking questions, leadership, motivation, etc. 
  • Have the skill to manage multiple projects and tasks at a time, maintain focus and structure, and know how to prioritize. 
  • Have the skill to resolve conflicts with ease and professionalism to ensure maximum guest and associate satisfaction. 

Abilities

  • Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with both associates, guests and managers to build trust and loyalty.
  • Ability to maintain consistent positive energy, self-motivation, accountability and passion for hospitality. 
  • Ability to keep hotel sensitive information confidential such as guest credit card information,  guest information,  etc. 
  • Ability to learn new software and computer systems. 
  • Ability to easily adapt to various situations, constant change, handle pressure and remain composed and focused.  

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to carry, grasp, push and pull heavy loads as well as lift and/or carry or otherwise move packages, boxes, and luggage weighing between 75-300 pounds.
  • Stand and move for prolonged periods up to 8+ hours. 
  • Frequently bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crawling and sitting to perform any/all general duties.
  • Frequently handling objects, machinery and equipment to maintain the facility.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual or Multilingual.
  • Prior Hotel Experience.
  • Prior Emotional Intelligence Training.

The Sheraton Palo Alto(a Pacific Hotel Management Hotel), functions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. All associates must acknowledge and understand this fact and be aware that at times it may be necessary to move an associate from their accustomed shift as business dictates.
