The Pittsburgh Paints Company is now hiring a Maintenance Engineer for our Temple, TX manufacturing plant. 

This position is responsible for planning, overseeing work assignments, performance coaching/counseling and serving as a resource for wage employees who service all areas within the Facility.  

The incumbent leads team meetings and facilitates improvements in processes with emphasis on quality, reduction of cost and substandard product loss (SSPL).   

Responsible for continuous improvement within the department, complying with regulatory agencies and overseeing outside contractors. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating activities between the operations and maintenance teams such as troubleshooting breakdown repairs, skilled fabrications, and installation or replacement of equipment.  
  • Assigns work orders and resolves priorities based on established schedules however, considerable judgment is required to adjust the schedule in response to critical equipment breakdowns. Ensuring that all work and product produced is in accordance with established quality requirements.  
  • Accountable for establishing shift schedules, prioritizing jobs, procuring material, and conducting preventive maintenance to ensure work continuity and balance. Also ensuring schedules are coordinated with the plant to minimize down time, maximize production and maximize maintenance compliance and productivity.  
  • See opportunities for improvements in equipment and production methods consistent with cost and quality objectives.  
  • Responsible for selection, training, performance appraisal, coaching, safety in the maintenance department. 
  • Communicates daily with production and engineering leadership in support of the PM programs and emergency work. Also works with finance team to ensure timely processing of all Maintenance department purchases. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum education required is a High School diploma/GED.  
  • 5+ years in mechanical maintenance and/or related skilled trades required. 
  • Previous supervision experience required, experience supervising maintenance teams is strongly preferred. 
  • High level of technical proficiency to make informed decisions and assist subordinates in troubleshooting and problem solving and a high sense of urgency. 
  • Must possess extensive technical knowledge of following plant unit operations (how they work, how to repair, safety considerations): Facilities infrastructure (HVAC, Electric Power distribution, compressed air, water, sewer and other plant utilities like steam boiler, cooling tower and chillers); Process equipment (Pumps, motors (incl. 3 phase), agitators/mixers, filling equipment, conveyors, consumer packaging equipment such as case packers, stretch wrappers); Process Controls (instrumentation, basic controls on above unit operations); Support equipment (rolling stock, material handling equipment); PLC controls and process control networks preferred. 
  • Must possess: leadership skills to motivate, train and develop maintenance workforce; organization skills to plan department work like projects and process improvements; teamwork and conflict resolution skills to support production and other departments; problem solving skills to address day to day downtime and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Proficiency with CMMS (computerized maintenance management system).
