Duties

• Facility Maintenance & Repairs
• Perform routine, preventive, and emergency repairs on district building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, boilers, fire alarms, carpentry, and roofing.
• Inspect, operate, test, and troubleshoot defective machinery and equipment using hand/power tools, blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.
• Execute standard preventive maintenance procedures (inspecting drives, motors, belts; checking fluid levels; replacing filters).
• Maintain indoor/outdoor equipment, entryways, sidewalks, and general physical plant assets.
• Planning & Operations
• Establish and recommend repair priorities, preventive maintenance schedules, and emergency response plans in consultation with administration.
• Order necessary parts and materials; advise on maintenance supply purchases and external contractor selection when required.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, and associated costs.
• Safety & Compliance
• Observe state and federal safety regulations, manage risk, and proactively address potentially hazardous or damaging conditions.
• Serve as the designated asbestos worker/contact for the school district.
• Leadership & Communication
• Guide and instruct custodial staff on proper procedures, tool usage, and safety practices.
• Maintain open, professional communication with administrators, staff, pupils, and contractors to foster a safe, positive school climate.
• Enforce school regulations and policies professionally.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications

• Education & Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Proven knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general construction trades.
• Experience operating standard maintenance tools, power equipment, and machinery.
• Certifications & Skills
• Valid driver's license required.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
• Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 35 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
• Ability to climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and work safely at high elevations (scaffolding, roofs).

Salary/Benefits

Salary will be based on experience, Insurance options (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life), IMRF Retirement, Sick, personal and vacation days provided.

Additional Notes

Schedule: 12-Month (260 Workdays) | Daily 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

(Subject to change based on district needs; overtime required as requested)

Preference will be given to candidates who are willing and qualified to drive a school bus as needed.
