Maintenance Intern - North Central High School

This summer internship is specifically for the Maintenance students at J. Everett Light Center at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

$15/hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

Internship through the partnership with J. Everett Light Career Center (North Central High School) Building Facilities & Maintenance program. This position will provide a summer internship to students enrolled in this program and provides hands-on experience of the maintenance tasks for a multi-family property. Students will be closely supervised to shadow and perform entry level maintenance tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Pick up trash on grounds.
• Clean out hallways.
• Assist with trash-outs of vacated units including but not limited to removal of debris, furniture, appliances, painting and minor repair work.
• Perform entry level maintenance tasks under supervision including but not limited to changing light bulbs, replacing window screens, replacing air filters, cleaning dryer vents, replacing batteries in smoke alarms.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

• Currently enrolled in the J. Everett Light Center Building Facilities & Maintenance program.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and interpret basic instructions, simple correspondence and present information one-on-one or in small groups.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide by 10s & 100s.
• Ability to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions with common sense understanding. Ability to deal with problems that involve few variables in standardized situations.

· Beginner computer skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Regularly must stand most of the day, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or bend.
• Regularly must lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to use all cleaning equipment.
• Occasionally must talk or listen.
• Occasionally must lift 25 pounds or more with assistance.
• Rarely must sit, climb, or balance.
• Rarely must lift more than 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Will regularly spend time in outdoor weather conditions while moving about the property for basic job functions.
• Occasionally must work in conditions that are wet or humid, extremely cold, or extremely hot (non-weather), near moving mechanical parts, near fumes or airborne particles.
• Rarely must work in high, precarious places, near toxic or caustic chemicals, with risk of electrical shock, with vibration.
• There is no risk of radiation or working with explosives.
