The City of Laramie Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for a Maintenance Laborer position for the Parks Division during the summer season. The ideal candidates will perform a variety of duties related to maintaining multiple parks and athletic fields. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn useful skills and be part of a team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate a wide variety of equipment and tools used in parks and athletic fields maintenance, repair, and construction in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform maintenance, landscaping, reconstruction, and repair work in parks.
  • Use field computers to monitor GIS data.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on the equipment.
  • Handle interactions with the public tactfully.
  • Follow oral and written instructions carefully.
  • Complete written reports and fill out forms regarding work completed.
  • Build, sustain, and promote positive and harmonious working relationships with those encountered during work.

Qualifications and Requirements A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, and climb.
  • The successful candidate will be exposed to noise, outdoor conditions, confined workspaces, dust, and mechanical hazards.
  • Ability to develop skills in a wide range of equipment operation and basic mechanical skills.
  • Ability to work well with other employees and interact with the public.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Availability to work nights and/or weekends when needed.

Certifications and Requirements

  • First Aid and CPR/AED certifications are required (training will be provided for the successful candidate).
  • Applicants who are offered an appointment will be required to pass a drug screening, a comprehensive background investigation, and a drivers license check.
