This is a twelvemonth, non-competitive position, subject to a 52-week probationary period.Responsibilities:Mow, reseed, roll, and fertilize lawns and athletic fields; care for flower beds; rake leaves; trims hedges, trees, and shrubs and perform other related maintenance of the School District grounds.Operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, (i.e. snow plows, tractors, and ride-on mowing equipment).Shovel or plow snow and ice from sidewalks and driveways.Patch blacktop on sidewalks and driveways.Clean gutters and catch basins.Empties trash receptacles and removes garbage and litter from streets, walkways, parks, and other municipal facilities;Line athletic fields for sports events.Perform miscellaneous tasks inside school buildings during inclement weather and winter months;Assist skilled mechanics in repair and construction projects such as carpentry, painting, masonry, paving and roofing work;Assists skilled mechanics in emergency repair and maintenance tasks, including road, water, storm water and sanitary sewer repairs;Makes simple electrical, plumbing and heating repairs;Performs other general building and grounds maintenance tasks;Assists in setting up stages, seating and tables for special events; breaks down and cleans up afterward;Performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled work;May lead laborers in performing maintenance tasks to complete projects and assignments.Completes other related assignments on an as-needed basis.May be assigned to other duties as required by School District Administration.Qualifications:A familiarity with accepted procedures and practices of grounds maintenance work.Possession of a valid New York State driver's license (Class D or higher).Ability to follow oral instructions; ability to get along well with others;Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position.Willingness to perform routine manual work; industrious in work performance; physical endurance and agility;Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Prerequisite: MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Either (a) graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience as a helper in any of the skilled trades; or (b) four (4) years as a laborer and one (1) year of experience as a helper in any of the skilled trades.Employment Terms:Type: 12 month, probationary position.Hours: Tuesday Saturday 7:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. (or days and times may vary depending on athletic or school events).Salary and Benefits: Salary range $48,183 - $72,641 - Benefits covered by the CSEA contract.* Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
