Job Summary

Located in Franklin Park, IL, this Maintenance Manager position offers an exciting opportunity to lead plant maintenance efforts with a hands-on approach. The role ensures the smooth functioning of the company's operations by maintaining and repairing the facility and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act on behalf of the General Manager to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental operating and construction permits.
  • Promote a safe working environment by adhering to plant safety guidelines and leading by example.
  • Lead, manage, and train staff to develop a well-rounded maintenance team.
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement within the department.
  • Provide feedback and discipline to maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure the department is staffed with personnel possessing proper skills and education.
  • Maintain 24/7 availability by phone and report in person as needed to minimize production downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues to ensure equipment operates efficiently and safely.
  • Ensure the department is equipped with proper tools and that housekeeping standards are met.
  • Oversee and approve installation and repair activities by maintenance team members.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifecycle.
  • Ensure operational efficiency through timely inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Generate weekly planned maintenance work orders, track status, and compliance.
  • Work with the General Manager to plan outages, installations, and events to meet production and cost expectations.
  • Monitor spare parts inventory and ensure parts availability.
  • Organize and maintain all technical documents and manuals.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure completion of environmental preventative maintenance.
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors for maintenance work as needed.
  • Attend routine management meetings to promote continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as necessary to support the team.
  • Maintain daily safety-conscious work efforts and notify management of any work-related injuries, safety concerns, or near-miss incidents.
  • Adapt to changing business needs, schedules, and deadlines, and perform other essential duties as assigned.

  • Participate in continuous improvement programs by offering suggestions and initiatives.
  • Comply with state and federal safety regulations and health, safety, and security procedures.

Competencies/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of maintenance terminology and practices.
  • Advanced understanding of industrial electronics, programmable logic controllers, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with drafting and understanding blueprints and schematics.
  • Effective communication and personnel management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and personally assist with tasks as needed.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in an industrial setting.
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to learn applicable company systems.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer background check, physical, and drug screen.
  • Independent thinking and sound judgment with proven problem-solving and mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including interaction with team members and managers/supervisors.
  • Excellent time management with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Work Experience

  • Associate degree in a related technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a maintenance management manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a maintenance team with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program.
  • Desired: Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Manufacturing plant environment with dirt, dust, and temperature fluctuations based on seasonal conditions with minimal fans and heaters.
  • Large machinery with moving parts, forklift traffic, and material storage.
  • Regularly required to communicate effectively; ability to walk, stand for long periods, climb ladders/scaffolds, and traverse uneven terrain during site inspections.
  • Often lift/carry up to 50 lbs., work in extreme temperatures or confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety toe boots/shoes, and a respirator.
