New England Aquarium is seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to join the Facilities Team and contribute to the maintenance of the vast mechanical systems that keep the animal collection safe and the facilities operating at peak performance.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

The Mechanic maintains, inspects, overhauls, and repairs all mechanical systems throughout the Aquarium and collaborates with individual departments and the Facilities team to provide a high level of service to the organization. This position is part of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 32BJ, District 615.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

This is a full-time, regular, on-site position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Tuesdays - Fridays from 6:30am - 5:00pm EST.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Works within preventive maintenance system to maintain mechanical systems (i.e., pumps, filtering systems, piping systems, steam, water, and compressed air systems).

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Inspects, overhauls, and repairs components of mechanical systems throughout the Aquarium complexes in Boston and Quincy.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Lays out projects, prepares materials list, and completes installations or repairs when assigned.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Performs maintenance requests as submitted in the Corrective Maintenance System to assist other divisions at the Aquarium.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Assists during snow removal operations.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Assists other colleagues in Facilities as needed.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Performs other duties as assigned.

\t\t\t\t\t

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

QUALIFICATIONS

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

Minimum Training and Experience

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• High School diploma or equivalent.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Minimum of three years\ experience maintaining pumps, filtration systems, and other mechanical systems.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Electrical and Chiller/HVAC familiarity preferred.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Valid drivers\ license.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• MA Hoist License or a willingness to train and obtain a license required.

\t\t\t\t\t

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Ability to take initiative and work independently to complete assigned tasks.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide excellent service to internal customers.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Organized and able to plan projects and execute them in a timely fashion.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Ability to lift up to 59 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs. or more required.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

• Ability to work in confined spaces, bend and stoop to access spaces with low clearance, and work on feet for extended periods of time required.
