POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Maintenance Mechanicyour roles and responsibilities will include:
The client is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-speed processing and packaging equipment at its Chicago bakery. This role is responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing production downtime, and supporting safe, efficient manufacturing operations through preventive maintenance and mechanical problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on high-speed processing and packaging equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical equipment failures using root cause analysis.
  • Execute preventive maintenance schedules using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably SAP PM.
  • Document maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment repairs accurately.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and technical schematics.
  • Repair and maintain pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical drives, bearings, gearboxes, and other production equipment.
  • Perform basic machining, welding, and mechanical fabrication as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and electrical maintenance teams to restore equipment performance.
  • Safely operate forklifts, man lifts, ladders, and other material handling equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using TPM, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and food manufacturing standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Most importantly, you need to be a passionate Maintenance Mechanicwho enjoys his work and is considered to be one of the best within your organization. The ideal Maintenance Mechanicwould be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 4+ years of hands-on experience as a Maintenance Mechanic or completion of an approved apprenticeship program.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, mechanical drives, welding, machining, and basic electrical systems.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting production equipment.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and mechanical schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience maintaining high-speed packaging or processing equipment in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing industries.
  • Experience using SAP PM or other CMMS software.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, LOTO, TPM, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma.
  • Experience with condition monitoring tools such as thermography and ultrasound equipment.
