Maintenance Mechanic (Corrections)

Position Summary

Works under general supervision to perform repair and maintenance work and perform other generalized duties in the operations of county facilities.

Pay Grade: 47H

Minimum Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience as a maintenance mechanic; AND
• High school diploma or possess a GED.
• PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs various general maintenance and/or mechanical duties as they relate to the specific position.
• Replaces defective electrical switches and other fixtures.
• Paints walls, floors, woodwork and fixtures of buildings, using spray guns and brushes.
• Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators and open clogged drains using plumber''s tools.
• Replaces and repairs brick and plaster walls.
• Keeps records and makes reports.
• Makes minor plumbing, mechanical, electrical and carpentry repairs.
• Makes or repairs counters, benches, partitions, using appropriate tools.
• Assists higher skilled maintenance personnel.
• Performs other related duties as required or directed.

KSAs

• Advanced knowledge of common practices, methods and materials for maintenance of buildings and construction work.
• Ability to work with people.
• Ability to complete reports and requisitions.
• General knowledge of wood, metal tools and instruments and their maintenance and use.

Physical Requirements

• Must pass a physical examination.

Special Requirements

• Must be able to function in a prison environment.
• Must have a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment.
• Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, and on call as required.
• Must pass a NCIC background check.
• Must successfully pass a drug test.
