Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic who will be a strong Nucor team member and demonstrate high levels of honesty, integrity, and ownership in everything they do. This role supports the hot mill by safely performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment to ensure maximum reliability, operational efficiency, and safety. The Maintenance Mechanic will also contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions to challenges in the steelmaking process.This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and scheduled or unscheduled overtime.
Key Responsibilities:

• Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on hot mill equipment, including roller tables, gearboxes, descalers, coilers, shears, hydraulic systems, and other critical mill machinery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical failures and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
• Conduct daily inspections and accurately complete work orders and maintenance documentation.
• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities according to established schedules.
• Assist with equipment installations, rebuilds, and overhauls.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
• Participate in pre-job planning, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with operations, electrical, and engineering teams to support optimal mill performance.
• Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment history.
• Uphold and promote all safety policies, including PPE compliance, lockout/tagout procedures, and stop-work authority.

Nucor Steel West Virginia's greenfield project is a state-of-the-art sheet steel mill designed to produce up to 3 million tons annually at full operation. Located in Mason County along the Ohio River, the facility is positioned near both Huntington and Charleston, West Virginia.

Safety is the most important part of every job at Nucor. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and consistently uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 4 years mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  

• Proficiency with mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, drive systems, and alignment techniques
  

• Basic understanding of welding, cutting, and rigging.
  

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  

• Ability to work safely in a physically demanding environment (lifting, climbing, standing for long periods).
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior Steel Mill experience.
• Technical certificate or associate degree in mechanical maintenance, industrial technology, or related field.
• Proficiency using CMMS for maintenance tracking.
