The Dallastown Area School District is seeking to fill a Full-Time, 12 Month Maintenance Mechanic I position in our Building and Grounds department. The ideal candidate will possess electrical experience and will be dedicated to excellence to help maintain a focus on our vision of inspiring and creating pathways for student success.

JOB SUMMARY & PAY RANGE

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintenance of the physical plant and working in coordination with administrators and staff to provide a safe and efficient learning environment. Position will also assist in maintaining the district's buildings and equipment, to ensure proper operating conditions. Starting pay rate is $22.05/hour, commensurate with professional experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect buildings and equipment to ensure equipment is operating properly and buildings are maintained properly (pumps, alarms, sprinkler systems).
  • Maintain and repair facilities as instructed, making direct repairs, installations and preventative maintenance as needed. Complete in-house construction project, as needed.
  • Assist in determining which jobs must be performed by outside contractors; recommend supplies and equipment for purchasing; estimate approximate costs for repairs as needed
  • Inform the Director of Buildings and Grounds of hazardous conditions and/or repair work that is needed or completed.
  • Complete work order instructions as assigned, record all pertinent information relevant to each work order, to include materials needed, material cost, time to complete and reasons for delays, and report any deviation from them to supervisor.
  • Provide leadership for assigned tasks as directed by the Director of Buildings and Grounds while working with temporary and summer help.
  • Accurately order and account for material and labor in relation to assignments.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety and code requirements/guidelines of state, local, and Board policies.
  • Perform other miscellaneous maintenance work when needed, including work related to events and assisting with custodial needs.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate with local distributors and make inquiries and/or purchases as directed by the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
  • Maintain all assigned tools, vehicles and equipment in a clean and responsible manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Buildings and Grounds.
  • Assist in snow removal and salting as necessary to provide free access to all entrances, exits, walks, driveways, and parking lots.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in building maintenance, or specialty work is preferred
  • Specialized experience or certification in a specific trade (i.e., electrical, plumbing, etc.)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of building operating systems, regulator codes and safety regulations
  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems, HVAC, electrical, facility disciplines, and the trades (e.g. masonry, carpentry, metal working, painting, etc.).
  • Must be able to read and interpret operation and maintenance manuals
  • Knowledge and understanding of various cleaning chemicals is necessary
  • Completion and submission of all mandated pre-employment documents and information.
  • Acceptable record of attendance
  • Such additions or alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable consistent with applicable Pennsylvania law, regulations and requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
