SUMMARY:  The Maintenance Mechanic II is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and improving production equipment, machinery, facility systems, and building infrastructure to support safe and efficient manufacturing operations. This position performs a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and preventive maintenance tasks to minimize equipment downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
 
The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to diagnose equipment issues, identify and obtain the appropriate tools, equipment, and replacement parts, and complete repairs accurately and efficiently within established timeframes. Experience working with industrial electrical systems, PLCs, automated equipment, and manufacturing machinery is essential.
 
This position works primarily throughout the manufacturing facility, with outdoor maintenance as required. Overtime, off-shift work, and emergency call-in support may be required to meet production and equipment maintenance needs.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain production machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Disassemble, rebuild, and reassemble machinery using appropriate tools and replacement parts.
  • Install, repair, and maintain industrial electrical systems, including motors, transformers, wiring, electrical controls, and electronic components.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, mechanical drawings, and hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, piping, PLC-controlled, robotic, and other automated manufacturing systems.
  • Set up and operate machine tools and welding equipment to fabricate or repair machine components, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Perform general facility maintenance, including carpentry and repairs to the physical structure of the facility.
  • Lubricate machinery and replace worn mechanical components as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete required documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while complying with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests, including overtime, off-shift, and call-in assignments as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Demonstrated experience installing, programming, troubleshooting, and repairing automated machinery, robotics, PLC-controlled systems, and other industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, and equipment manufacturer documentation.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, and automated controls.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship and safety.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and respond effectively to changing production needs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Technical training, apprenticeship, or post-secondary certifications in industrial maintenance, electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of industrial maintenance experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with industrial electrical systems, including 480V three-phase power, motor controls, and the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and vendors regarding maintenance activities and equipment issues.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to work with fractions, decimals, and standard units of measurement.
  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure to within 1/16 inch.
  • Ability to apply mathematical skills when troubleshooting, repairing, and fabricating equipment and components.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Basic data entry and documentation.
  • Printing and accessing electronic work orders, manuals, and maintenance documentation.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or ERP software is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is beneficial.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, and communicate. The employee may occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and peripheral vision.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  This position is performed in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is variable. Required PPE, including steel-toe shoes must be work must be worn when in designated production areas.  Employees are expected to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
