Job Summary and Qualifications

 Under general supervision this position is responsible for corrective and preventive maintenance on all fixed and movable facility assets. Individuals in this position provides a safe and comfortable work environment for employees, patients and visitors by maintaining repairs and maintenance of heating, ventilation & air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for the hospital, grounds and hospital properties. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform preventative, corrective, and emergent maintenance procedures on building mechanical/plumbing equipment as directed or assigned; inspect/change belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, clears clogged drains, and assists in other plumbing repairs under the direction/guidance of a licensed plumber. 
  • Maintains boiler room, mechanical room, and utility system logs in the absence of certified technicians, and/or as directed by supervisor during after-hour operations. 
  • Perform preventative, corrective, and emergent maintenance procedures on building lighting and alarm systems equipment; Dispose/store used lamps/ballast according to department policies and regulatory requirements. 
  • Responds to various system alarms in the absence of certified technicians, acknowledges alarms, resets or takes appropriate corrective actions under the guidance and direction of certified technicians. Perform preventative, corrective, and emergent maintenance procedures of the built environment. 
  • Replace broken/damaged screens, blinds, shades and ceiling tiles. Installs/hangs pictures, shelves, signs, racks, white boards, and the like. Install, maintain, and repair all types of doors, furniture, and fixtures. Moves furniture, fixtures and equipment using assistive devices, using proper body mechanics to prevent injury.  
  • Adheres to all safety and security programs and policies of the organization, as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), JointCommission compliance Standards, and organizational policies regarding the “Environment of Care” and “Life Safety.” Reports deficiencies to supervisor regarding fire and smoke rated doors/frames, “Above Ceiling Program,” and means of egress concerns. 
  • Receives and forwards all communications regarding Facilities Management issues to the immediate supervisor via phone, logbook entries, or approved electronic format. Follow work order procedures as assigned and monitor/close orders through the CMMS. 
  • Monitors and responds to weather conditions to ensure entrance ways are cleaned of debris and/or salted during after-hour operations. 
  • Performs roof and area checks to ensure debris and/or buildings are secure during adverse weather conditions. Initiates “First Response” actions during emergency/contingency situations in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures. 
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Clean work area regularly. Keeping all tools and equipment clean and in good working order. 
  • Provide maintenance coverage for after hour maintenance calls through the Call Back Rotation schedule and performs similar or related duties as assigned or requested.


What qualifications you will need:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required 
  • Post-secondary school or vocational training preferred 
  • Courses in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, sheet metal, automotive repair, ventilation and clinical engineering preferred 
  • Two to four years’ experience in plant operations and/or building maintenance in a healthcare environment 
  • 3 years experience Required

HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital is a purpose-guided healthcare provider. We are a four-story, 150,000-square-foot hospital. We have 70 private beds and a six-bed private ICU. We provide a full range of acute care services including emergency services, inpatient and outpatient diagnostic imaging, and inpatient and outpatient surgery.
