Maintenance Mechanic, Long Term Care (3975)

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Mechanic, Long Term Care supports building operations and resident safety within a long-term care environment by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and basic construction tasks on equipment, building systems, and physical structures. This role responds to work orders, troubleshoots maintenance issues, and assists with projects that help maintain a functional, safe, and comfortable setting for residents, visitors, and staff. Working both independently and as part of a collaborative facilities team, the Maintenance Mechanic, Homes follows applicable codes, safety standards, and organizational policies while contributing to dependable operations and a well-maintained care environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures in resident rooms, common areas, and support spaces.
• Respond to maintenance requests and work orders, assessing needs and completing repairs or adjustments within scope of role.
• Assist with minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and mechanical tasks under applicable codes and facility policies.
• Monitor building conditions, identify potential safety or operational issues, and communicate concerns to leadership.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in clean, safe condition and follow lockout/tagout and other safety procedures.
• Collaborate with nursing, environmental services, and other departments to minimize disruption during maintenance activities.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• Valid drivers license.
• CDL preferred.

Educational Requirements:

• High School preferred but not required.
• Trade School preferred but not required.

Experience Requirements:

• Three years of mechanical equipment maintenance and repair preferred but not required.

Special Skills or Training Requirements:

• Proficient in maintenance/repair techniques.
• Read schematics and blueprints.
• Proficient in use of hand and power tools.
• Drive vehicle, to include passenger bus.
• Operate skid steer with forklift, bucket, or broom.

Physical Requirements:

The Maintenance Mechanic Long Term Care requires walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working in a variety of indoor and outdoor areas throughout the shift. The role involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tools, equipment, and materials, often in the 35-50 pound range, and may require use of ladders or working in confined spaces. Good vision, depth perception, hearing, and manual dexterity are needed to safely operate hand and power tools, read instructions and plans, and work around building systems and residents.

Environmental Requirements:

Work is performed throughout long term care facilities, including resident rooms, common areas, mechanical rooms, exterior grounds, and utility spaces. The role involves exposure to noise, dust, odors, temperature variations, and occasional contact with chemicals or mechanical hazards. Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety procedures are required when working with tools, equipment, and building systems. Work hours are primarily daytime but may include occasional evenings, weekends, or on call responsibilities to address urgent maintenance needs.
