Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic performs primarily mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on a wide range of production and conveyor systems. This role focuses on troubleshooting and repairing mechanical components such as chains, sprockets, gears, bearings, and drive shafts, while also handling basic electrical tasks including low-voltage components, sensors, relays, and photoeyes. You will work as part of a three-technician team on each shift, under the guidance of a lead technician, to keep equipment running efficiently and minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on conveyor systems and production equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• Quickly troubleshoot conveyor systems and associated mechanical components, including chains, sprockets, gears, bearings, and drive shafts.
• Diagnose and repair timing systems to maintain proper synchronization of equipment and processes.
• Inspect, maintain, and replace low-voltage components such as sensors, relays, and photoeyes as needed.
• Assist with electrical troubleshooting, including basic work on PLC-controlled equipment, relays, sensors, and voltage systems (such as 480V and 24V) within defined safety guidelines.
• Support maintenance activities on additional equipment including ovens, slicers, coolers, pumps, and packaging machines.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance (PMs) according to established schedules and document all work performed.
• Collaborate with other technicians and the lead technician on each shift to prioritize repairs, share information, and ensure smooth operations.
• Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to reduce downtime and scrap.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition while following all safety procedures.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly and work efficiently to restore production with minimal disruption.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in maintenance and repair of industrial equipment.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair conveyor systems and related mechanical components such as chains, sprockets, gears, bearings, and drive shafts.
• Comfort working with timing systems and understanding how mechanical and electrical components interact.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance tasks on production or material handling equipment.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including working with PLC-controlled systems, relays, sensors, photoeyes, and common voltage levels such as 480V and 24V.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team with other technicians under a lead technician.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues quickly and accurately.
• Attention to detail and commitment to following safety procedures and maintenance standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with bakery or food production equipment, including ovens, slicers, coolers, and packaging machines, is a plus.
• Familiarity with low-voltage components that require frequent replacement, such as sensors, relays, and photoeyes.
• Maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, and basic technical documentation.
• Comfort working around pumps and other auxiliary mechanical systems.
• Willingness to learn new equipment and technologies and adapt to evolving production needs.

Work Environment

The facility is well lit and climate controlled, providing a comfortable setting for maintenance work throughout the year. You will work in and around production areas that involve flour and other mixing ingredients, so you can expect to get slightly dirty as part of normal duties. The role involves working on a variety of equipment, including conveyor systems, ovens, slicers, coolers, packaging machines, pumps, and low-voltage electrical components. Standard industrial attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety while performing mechanical and electrical tasks.

This is a Permanent position based out of Sidney, OH.

The pay range for this position is $66996.00 - $75587.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
