Summary:
This Engineer is responsible for keeping extrusion equipment running. This role owns equipment uptime through hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair, while building and enforcing strong preventative maintenance practices. This position is heavily involved on the production floor and plays a key role in driving reliability and leading high-value equipment and facility improvement projects—from install through execution. The right candidate is mechanical, practical, and able to both fix problems quickly and prevent them from happening again.
Responsibilities:
Own uptime and reliability of extrusion lines and supporting equipment
Perform and lead preventative, predictive, and breakdown maintenance
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues quickly (gearboxes, motors, drives, heaters, cooling, hydraulics, tooling)
Be the go-to person for hands-on problem solving on the floor
Identify repeat failures and drive permanent fixes, not temporary patches
Build, manage, and improve PM programs, schedules, and standards
Coordinate maintenance with production to keep lines running and avoid surprises
Manage maintenance workload, work orders, and emergency priorities
Maintain and control critical spare parts to avoid extended downtime
Track equipment condition and support repair vs. replace decisions
Lead and support equipment installs, rebuilds, and upgrades
Take an active role in high-dollar capital and facility projects (planning, execution, vendors, timelines, budgets)
Work with outside contractors and vendors to get work done right and on time
Support and guide maintenance techs and operators with troubleshooting and basic maintenance practices
Ensure work is done safely and in line with company and ISO standards
Works with existing operator base to build a cross-functional team dedicated to increased uptime.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience
3+ years in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or extrusion
Strong, hands-on knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics, and motors, drives, and rotating equipment
Proven ability to troubleshoot and fix equipment under pressure
Experience building or working with preventative maintenance programs
Experience with capital projects or equipment installs (budgeting, timelines, vendor coordination)
Comfortable being on the floor, hands-on, not just behind a desk
Basic CAD (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) is a plus
Strong organizational and project management skills, able to handle multiple high-value projects while supporting daily maintenance needs
Has experience with extrusion production equipment maximizing outputs and efficiencies. Has all trouble shooting skills to reduce risk of downtime and control quality production on time.
Experience with and building team of dedicated operators to address maintenance concerns
