Maintenance Operations Manager — Food Processing

How you’ll make an impact

Department leadership

  • Define and implement maintenance best practices aligned with company strategies and site goals.
  • Recruit, schedule, train, supervise, and motivate maintenance staff.
  • Coordinate vendor activities; validate repair schedules and cost estimates.
  • Set part and equipment repair priorities; control and monitor inventory.

Reliability execution

  • Delegate and oversee shift maintenance tasks with regular performance checks.
  • Build and run a high-impact PPM schedule to maximize planned downtime and cut unplanned outages.
  • Optimize line performance and product quality; manage calibration/maintenance for electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Establish cost accountability and a materials spend strategy.
  • Maintain accurate systems and equipment data records.
  • Lead seamless commissioning of new machinery to avoid downtime.
  • Evaluate assets for efficiency; plan replacements and upgrades.
  • Oversee compliant disposal of obsolete machines and plant equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify and act on business improvement opportunities.
  • Provide hands-on technical expertise; engage external resources when needed.
  • Conduct departmental risk assessments.
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with OSHA and company standards; safeguard a safe, healthy workplace for employees, contractors, and visitors.

People, budget, and partnerships

  • Coach, counsel, and develop a high-performing team with clear goals and feedback.
  • Model excellence and set expectations; manage staffing to meet demand.
  • Motivate the team to operational success; verify task completion and documentation quality.
  • Review, edit, and audit timekeeping to ensure accurate pay.
  • Manage to the maintenance budget; drive competitive bidding and vendor selection.
  • Prepare and own the annual maintenance budget, end-to-end.
  • Collaborate with the Management team and external partners to implement process improvements that meet customer requirements and optimize cost without compromising quality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; 5+ years related experience/training; or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to interface professionally at all company levels.
  • High level of interpersonal skill and discretion with confidential matters.
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritization capability.
  • Certificates/Licenses: No certifications needed.

Physical demands

  • Fine motor control with hands; reach with hands/arms; speak and hear at normal levels.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking; computer and phone-based work requiring screen focus and keyboard use.
  • Ability to manage moderate daily stress; occasional climbing, balancing, walking, bending, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Lift/move regularly up to 10 lbs, frequently up to 25 lbs, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.

Work environment

  • Regular exposure to wet/humid (non-weather) conditions and moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequent exposure to fumes/airborne particles, variable temperatures, and extreme heat (non-weather).
  • Occasional exposure to heights, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), and electrical shock risk.
  • Typically loud noise levels.
