The Maintenance Planner reports to the Project Manager and works closely with the Maintenance Manager to support both project and maintenance objectives. This role is responsible for proactively planning maintenance work at least one week in advance, ensuring all labor, materials, tools, safety requirements, and documentation are in place before work is scheduled.
The Maintenance Planner partners with Maintenance, Operations, Reliability, and Purchasing teams to optimize workforce productivity, improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support cost-effective operations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed maintenance job plans for preventive, predictive, corrective, and project work.
Ensure all work packages include labor estimates, parts, tools, procedures, safety requirements, and supporting documentation.
Manage maintenance backlog, prioritize work orders, and prepare approved work for scheduling.
Coordinate parts procurement, inventory availability, and work package staging.
Lead weekly backlog review meetings and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
Support equipment commissioning and decommissioning activities.
Maintain accurate data in the CMMS, including asset records, work history, and BOMs.
Monitor maintenance KPIs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and work management standards.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical diploma, journeyman certification, or engineering degree preferred.
3-5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in planning, reliability, scheduling, or technical support roles.
Experience with CMMS/EAM systems and maintenance planning processes.
Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), condition-based monitoring (CBM), and preventive maintenance best practices preferred.
