Position Summary & Description

SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Repairman 2 performs various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machinery, buildings, and equipment. Work involves proficiency in several trades, with working conditions and the degree of lead work exercised differing by location and the nature of assignments. Employees exercise technical independence in determining work methods and procedures, and receive assignments orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams. Review of work is received from technical or administrative superiors through inspections and discussions.

The above duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Repairs doors, door frames, and furniture; fabricates and installs temporary partitions; builds forms; and operates and maintains wood lathe, sanders, jointer, power saw, planer, and related power and hand tools to perform assigned carpentry duties.
  • Paints and decorates interiors of buildings; and performs masonry work in connection with buildings, bridges, foundations, walks, and walls.
  • Installs and maintains plumbing fixtures; maintains steam lines, steam heating, and cooking equipment; repairs hospital sterilizers; and measures, cuts, threads and installs pipe for steam and water lines.
  • Installs electric circuits, wall plugs, and lighting fixtures; and repairs and reconditions fans.
  • Makes repairs and adjustments to laundry washing, drying and pressing machinery, and schedules oiling and greasing of equipment.
  • Performs lead work over helpers performing basic assignments.
  • Makes repairs to roofs and installs flashing and spouts.
  • Welds and brazes metals by use of arc and acetylene welders; and erects steel for construction.
  • Performs repair on bridge structures, such as building forms, finishing concrete, welding steel components, and operating construction equipment when required.
  • Cuts grass using lawn care equipment.
  • Remove snow from sidewalks and parking lots using snow removal equipment.
  • Performs related work as required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Position Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1.

or

  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades.

or

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
  • Candidates must have communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.

The salary for this position is determined by the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  1. Full-time, regular Maintenance Repairman 2 employees of an opportunity to submit a bid for shift preference.

  2. Full-time temporary Maintenance Repairman 2 employees of an opportunity to submit a bid for a regular Maintenance Repairman 2.

  3. If no shift or seniority bids are received, this position will be posted for all other applicants for an additional 10 days.

Current employees in their probationary period will only be considered for shift preference or seniority bidding within their classification series.
