Maintenance Supervisor

Major Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Determines personnel, materials, equipment, and facilities needed for construction projects.
  • Responsible for all personnel and administrative matters involving the Construction Project Team and the In-House Construction Program.
  • Possesses authority for personnel and administrative actions and administers a variety of management programs such as training, cost reduction, suggestion awards, and quality/quantity control.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of local policies, objectives, and goals related to construction project management.
  • Responsible for the development of a bill of materials (BOM), project layout, and determining manpower requirements required to complete station level construction projects.
  • Responsible for ensuring construction deadlines and production schedules are met.
  • Determines requirements, prepares designs, specifications, and estimates.
  • Provides construction advice to peers, subordinates or non-professional administrators/managers, reviews or directs the review of plans, specifications, and designs, and provides advice to improve such plans and specifications.
  • Directly supervises a work crew consisting of multiple Maintenance Mechanics, Electricians, Pipefitters, and any temporary and/or P&H employees or contractors.
  • Develops work standards, methods, and procedures using established National codes, trade work practices, and VA standard guidelines.
  • Provides direction using written and oral communication techniques as needed.
  • Makes regular and recurring inspections of construction project sites throughout the facility to confirm that work is being completed correctly, and to ensure that all necessary safety guidelines are being met.
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates for use in obtaining project funding.
  • Prepares correspondence, technical reports, estimates, fact sheets, status reports, and schedules as required.
  • Reviews and evaluates shop drawings, samples and material certifications submitted by contractors for contract and performance requirements; recommends approval, rejection, or receipt of submitted construction project requests.
  • Establishes and maintains current performance standards of supervised employees.
  • Provides a variety of supervisory support to assigned subordinates, including performance evaluation; staffing; creating/updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); and initiates corrective action to potentially include disciplinary action.
