Job Title

This position supervises the mechanical and I&E technicians responsible for repair & installation of equipment and instruments for the Birmingham facilities located at Lakeshore Parkway and Tom Martin Drive.

Responsibilities:

Oversee mechanical and I&E technicians, including scheduling, performance management, hiring, and development.

Maintain continuous operations across the site, managing resources to support production needs year-round.

Act as system owner for utilities like steam, cooling water, WFI, DI water, and purified water systems.

Lead troubleshooting and decision-making during emergency breakdowns to minimize downtime.

Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and increase operational efficiency.

Maintain adherence to FDA and cGMP standards, including documentation, audits, and quality practices.

Partner with Manufacturing, QC, Engineering, and Microbiology to align maintenance with production priorities.

Define scope of work, manage work orders, oversee installations, and coordinate contractors/vendors.

Ensure technicians are properly trained, qualified, and continuously improving in technical and compliance skills.

Enforce safety standards, ensure proper PPE use, and lead a strong safety culture across all maintenance activities.

Requirements:

Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Prefer a Technical Certification, and a 2-year Degree or higher.

3–5+ years working in a GMP-regulated environment (pharma, biotech, or manufacturing) with solid documentation practices or relevant experience.

Strong hands-on experience maintaining and repairing process instruments and equipment.

Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems, motors, and rotating equipment (pumps, fans, vacuum systems).

Understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems supporting plant operations.

Capable of handling multiple priorities with attention to detail and sound judgment.

Effective verbal/written communication and ability to work cross-functionally.
