Job Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading maintenance operations within an industrial manufacturing environment. This role oversees maintenance team members and contractors to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance activities. The position focuses on promoting a strong safety culture, planning and scheduling maintenance work, managing maintenance costs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to support equipment reliability and operational performance.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and supervise maintenance team members and contractors while ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational procedures
Plan and schedule maintenance activities, including job walk-downs, scope development, safety evaluations, and parts procurement
Manage maintenance work orders through submission, scheduling, execution, and financial close using CMMS systems such as SAP
Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations, planned outages, and major shutdown activities
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including hazardous waste management requirements
Support ISO 9001, ISO 14001, FSSC 22000, and HACCP programs to maintain quality and food safety standards
Troubleshoot equipment failures and provide technical support for commissioning and decommissioning process automation systems
Monitor and improve maintenance KPIs, including wrench time, downtime, and scheduled versus unscheduled maintenance performance
Identify and implement reliability improvements and continuous improvement initiatives
Serve as backup to the Maintenance Manager and participate in on-call rotation for emergency response support
Job Requirements
High school diploma required
Technical training in an industrial manufacturing environment preferred, including Millwright or Electrical/Instrumentation disciplines
Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in a chemical plant or related manufacturing environment
Minimum 3 years of maintenance supervisory experience; experience in a union environment preferred
Strong knowledge of industrial equipment, including pumps, piping, heat exchangers, vessels, and instrumentation systems
Ability to lead teams, enforce safety standards, and manage contractors effectively
Proficiency in maintenance planning, scheduling, and cost control processes
Hands-on troubleshooting experience with mechanical and electrical process equipment
Familiarity with maintenance documentation, including P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and equipment lists
Understanding of maintenance KPIs and continuous improvement strategies
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Education
High school diploma required
Technical training in Millwright or Electrical/Instrumentation preferred
Work Experience
5+ years of industrial experience in a chemical plant or manufacturing environment
3+ years of experience in a maintenance supervisory role
