The Utilities & Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting facility utility systems and ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the plant grounds. This role plays a critical part in supporting food safety standards, regulatory compliance, and overall operational efficiency. The work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday from 6 am - 4 pm with weekends as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Utilities Maintenance

  • Monitor, operate, and maintain facility utility systems including:
  • Boilers.
  • Compressed air systems
  • Water systems (potable, wastewater, and process water)
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on utility equipment
  • Monitor gauges, meters, and control systems to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving utility system failures or inefficiencies
  • Maintain logs and documentation for system performance and compliance

Grounds & Facility Maintenance

  • Maintain facility grounds including mowing, trimming, snow removal, and landscaping
  • Ensure parking lots, walkways, and exterior areas are clean, safe, and hazard-free
  • Perform general building maintenance including minor repairs, painting, and upkeep
  • Support waste management processes, including dumpster and recycling area maintenance

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP, and food safety protocols
  • Ensure utilities systems meet sanitation and regulatory standards
  • Maintain cleanliness of utility areas and mechanical spaces
  • Report any conditions that could impact food safety or quality

Safety & Environmental

  • Adhere to all plant safety procedures and OSHA regulations
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues
  • Assist in environmental compliance, including wastewater and emissions monitoring
  • Properly handle and store chemicals and maintenance supplies

General Duties

  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner
  • Assist other maintenance staff as needed
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support production downtime activities when required

Qualifications

 

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical training or certification (HVAC, boiler operation, etc.) preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, utilities, or facilities work (food manufacturing preferred)

Skills & Abilities

  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with industrial utility systems
  • Ability to read gauges, meters, and technical manuals
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and climbing
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Comfortable working around machinery and utility systems

Work Environment

  • Food manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, temperature changes, and mechanical equipment
  • Required use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
