Essential Job Functions

Maintenance Oversight & Decision Authority

Review, evaluate, and approve maintenance and repair quotes for tractors, trailers, and ancillary equipment.

Issue purchase orders (POs) and determine whether to proceed with repairs based on cost, urgency, equipment condition, and operational impact.

Prioritize maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime and minimize service disruptions.

Ensure all repairs meet DOT, FMCSA, and internal safety standards.

Vendor & Cost Management

Develop, negotiate, and manage corporate maintenance and repair agreements with vendors, dealerships, and service providers.

Establish preferred vendor programs and national or regional service agreements to secure discounted pricing and favorable terms.

Evaluate vendor performance based on cost, turnaround time, quality of work, and compliance.

Continuously identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or reliability.

Fleet & Asset Management

Oversee preventive maintenance programs for tractors and trailers to reduce breakdowns and unplanned repairs.

Track maintenance history, warranty coverage, and lifecycle costs for all fleet assets.

Collaborate with operations and dispatch to schedule repairs with minimal operational impact.

Support equipment replacement and capital planning decisions through maintenance cost analysis.

Financial & Administrative Control

Monitor and control maintenance budgets, repair spend, and vendor invoicing.

Validate invoices against approved quotes and completed work.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, documentation, and compliance reporting.

Leadership & Communication

Serve as the primary point of contact for maintenance-related decisions across Crane Freight and Crane Cartage.

Communicate clearly with operations, safety, and leadership regarding equipment status, downtime, and repair recommendations.

Provide guidance and direction to internal maintenance staff or third-party providers as applicable.

Physical Requirements

Talking, hearing, and using hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.

Sitting for extended periods of time.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Education & Experience

5+ years of experience in fleet maintenance, heavy-duty trucking, or transportation equipment management.

Strong working knowledge of Class 8 tractors, trailers, DOT requirements, and preventive maintenance programs.

Proven experience reviewing repair estimates, issuing POs, and making cost-based maintenance decisions.

Established vendor relationships within the trucking or transportation maintenance industry preferred.

Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable pricing and service agreements.

High level of mechanical aptitude combined with financial and operational judgment.

Certifications and Licenses

Professional certification may be required in some areas.
