    THIS IS A 3rd SHIFT POSITION!

    SUMMARY

     Reporting to the Maintenance & Facilities Manager the primary responsibility is to supervise the daily performance of every Maintenance Tech on assigned shift to achieve team and company objectives. This hands-on supervisor will have broad based industrial maintenance experience and a core skill set in plastic injection molding machines and/or plastic sheet extrusion, inline thermoforming, EPP/EPS shape molding, and related production support equipment. Experience will encompass: Electrical/PLC, Robotics, Mechanical, Hydraulic/Pneumatics, Welding, Machining, Conveyor systems, etc. Must be willing to tackle any maintenance challenges and be willing to assist and learn from others in their area of expertise.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Assigns and schedules PMs, backlog, and project work based on machine requirements and availability.
    • Conducts daily team shift start-up meetings (aka Toolbox Meetings) that include work assignments, safety topics and special instructions.
    • Instructs employees in, and enforces, the company and department policies and safety procedures. Tests, measures and documents employee understanding of the policies and procedures and conducts additional training and corrective actions as necessary.
    • Oversees, motivates, and supports employees, including management of training and professional development.
    • Participates in the development of policies and procedures, monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
    • Participates in the selection of maintenance employees, provides and coordinates training, works with employees to correct deficiencies and narrow skill gaps, and conducts disciplinary action as required.
    • Trains Techs in all facets of the CMMS and ensures all work has been documented by Techs on CMMS by end of shift.
    • Interprets prints, technical information, and work instructions to Technicians as necessary.
    • Analyzes and resolves work problems and/or assists Techs in solving work problems.
    • Manually cleans/dismantles/replaces/repairs defective machines or electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic components of machinery and equipment.
    • Performs preventative maintenance per defined interval/schedule in an efficient manner.
    • Lays out, assembles, installs and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, material handling/transfer equipment.
    • Locates malfunctions through close observation of machinery, utilizing test instruments and knowledge of machine operation. Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
    • Reads blueprints, ladder logic, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics to troubleshoot machines. 
    • Performs corrective maintenance procedures as needed.
    • Leads and participates in team projects for process improvement such as reducing wasted material, minimizing labor, and reducing job times.
    • Conducts shift tours of the facility to monitor workflow and assist Techs as needed and other responsibilities as per the company’s management operating system (MOS).
    • Collaborates with other departments on processes, functions, and procedures of equipment operations.
    • Inspects Emergency/break-down calls, estimates repair time, prioritizes tasks and assigns labor to minimize machine downtime and meet production requirements.
    • Initiates requests for quotes and requisitions for parts and/or machine retrofits, upgrades or other improvements or modifications.
    • Serves as a liaison with vendors.
    • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
    • Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
    • Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
    • Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
    • Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
    • Follow all department quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.

    • Understands department’s key performance indicators and contributes to achieve these goals both individually and as a team.  
    • Other duties as needed or required.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Participates in the preparation and administration of the plant maintenance program budget, submits budget recommendations, and monitors expenditures.
    • Conducts proper follow through on all maintenance issues.
    • Must be able to work overtime as needed, remain flexible and open to possible schedule changes in order to meet business needs.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year accredited college or university and three to five years of related experience or

    training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Maintenance experience in one or more of the following manufacturing processes: plastic injection molding,

    plastic sheet extrusion, plastic inline thermoforming, and/or EPP/EPS shape molding.

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as mechanical, electrical and hydraulic prints or schematics, safety policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals using a computer.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
    • Ability to learn and safely operate one or more of the following: electric or propane-fueled forklift, scissor lift, and/or boom lift.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

    • 8 or more years of related experience as a maintenance supervisor or similar role.
    • Excellent planning, leadership, and communication skills.
    • Previous experience in corrective or preventative maintenance and troubleshooting with:
      • Haitian 2 and 3 platen injection molding machines and/or JSW hydraulic or electric injection molding machines
      • Star robots
      • Lyle inline thermoforming
      • Davis-Standard inline sheet extrusion
      • Akkaya EPP/EPS shape molding machines
      • Universal Dynamics (Una-Dyn) and/or Novatec material handling equipment
    • Experience in operating forklifts, scissor lifts and boom lifts.
    • Detail oriented.
    • Advanced computer skills.
