Overview:

Position Summary: 

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of all maintenance technicians and the maintenance clerk, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production equipment and facility systems. This role serves as the frontline leader of the maintenance function, driving execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities, upholding safety and quality standards, and developing the skills and accountability of the maintenance team under the direction of the Maintenance Manager. 

Responsibilities:
  • Essential Functions: 

    • Supervises and directs the daily activities of maintenance technicians and the maintenance clerk across all shifts, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to standard. 
    • Assigns and prioritizes work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, and corrective repairs in alignment with production schedules and department priorities. 
    • Responds promptly to equipment breakdowns and operational deviations; leads troubleshooting efforts and coordinates resources to minimize downtime. 
    • Executes the preventive maintenance program as directed by the Maintenance Manager, ensuring all tasks are completed on schedule and documented accurately in the CMMS. 
    • Monitors and maintains equipment performance records; communicates trends, recurring failures, and reliability risks to the Maintenance Manager. 
    • Ensures all maintenance work is performed in compliance with safety standards, GMP requirements, OSHA regulations, and company policies. 
    • Conducts daily floor presence to observe work quality, coach technicians, and reinforce safe behaviors and standard operating procedures. 
    • Coordinates with production supervisors and other department leads to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations. 
    • Supports the Maintenance Manager in coordinating outside vendor work, ensuring contractors follow site safety and quality requirements. 
    • Assists with inventory management of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies; communicates replenishment needs to the Maintenance Manager. 
    • Participates in Safety, 5S, and other continuous improvement activities; leverages Operational Excellence tools to drive sustainable improvements in reliability and efficiency. 
    • Assists with incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and corrective action follow-through within the maintenance function. 
    • Provides training, direction, coaching, and performance feedback to maintenance technicians and the maintenance clerk; supports onboarding of new team members. 
    • Develops internal talent by modeling our growth behaviors and creating opportunities for team members to advance within the organization. 
    • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA, and HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer, and government standards. 
    • Strive to be a safety solutions leader by maintaining the 200% for safety mindset. Participate in engagement activities, complete required safety training, and aid in identifying hazards within the facility utilizing BBS and other safety programs. 
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management. 
  • Supervisory Responsibility: 

    Directly supervises 10 maintenance technicians. Supervisory responsibilities include daily work direction, scheduling, coaching, performance feedback, and incident reporting. Works closely with the Maintenance Manager on hiring, onboarding, and formal performance evaluations. 

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in mechanical, electrical, or a related field preferred. 
  • 5-7 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 1-2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, general maintenance practices, and safe work procedures in a production environment. 
  • Experience with CMMS or work order management systems preferred. 
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards, GMP requirements, and food safety protocols preferred. 
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple work orders and urgent repairs simultaneously. 
  • Effective communicator with the ability to direct hourly team members clearly and work collaboratively with cross-functional supervisors and managers. 
  • Self-motivated, solutions-oriented, and able to make sound decisions under pressure.

Working Conditions/Environment:

Works primarily on the manufacturing floor with some time in the maintenance office. Regularly required to speak, read, hear, stand, walk, bend, crouch, climb, and reach while moving about the facility. Frequently exposed to non-ambient temperatures, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, and moving equipment. The noise level is loud on the plant floor. Earplugs, hairnets, beard nets, safety glasses, and slip-resistant/steel-toed shoes are required per company GMP and safety standards. May be required to work extended hours, weekends, or respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies as needed.
