Job Description

Second Shift for this role will be approximately 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm during the week

Position Overview: Primary duties to preventative maintenance and repair work on the machinery we use in the manufacturing of livestock feed. Assisting with upgrades, modifications, and improvements to our plant. Additional duties to include operating feed mill equipment, loading/unloading trucks, customer service, grounds and equipment maintenance, warehouse maintenance, and other related feed production duties, forklift operation and grain handling.

Essential Responsibilities

Maintenance Technician work is estimated to be about 70% of time spent

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for keeping all plant equipment and systems operating safely and efficiently.

Preventive Maintenance
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on mill equipment, conveyors, bucket elevators, mixers, pellet mills, grinders, augers, and other production machinery.
  • Lubricate, inspect, adjust, and replace components to prevent equipment failures.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential mechanical issues before they cause downtime.
  • Maintain maintenance records
Troubleshooting & Repair
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical issues.
  • Troubleshoot motors, bearings, gearboxes, drives, chains, belts, sprockets, and conveyor systems.
  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions.
  • Perform emergency repairs while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Work closely with production personnel to identify recurring equipment concerns and implement corrective actions.
Facility & Equipment Improvements
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, modifications, and plant improvement projects.
  • Perform light fabrication, welding, cutting, and equipment adjustments as needed.
  • Recommend solutions to improve equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Support inventory management of maintenance parts and supplies.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure equipment guards, safety devices, and emergency systems remain functional.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance area and production environment.
  • Identify and report safety hazards and participate in corrective actions.

Mill Operations work is estimated to be about 30% of time spent

The Mill Operator portion of the role involves supporting daily feed production activities.

Feed Mixing & Production
  • Operate feed mill equipment to manufacture products according to formulas and production schedules.
  • Verify ingredients and ensure proper sequencing during batching and mixing operations.
  • Monitor equipment performance and product quality during production runs.
Documentation & Recordkeeping
  • Complete batch sheets, production logs, quality control forms, and other required documentation accurately.
  • Record production quantities, downtime events, and equipment observations.
  • Verify formulas and production records meet company and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate shift activities, concerns, and production information to incoming shifts.
Housekeeping
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout production areas.
  • Assist with routine cleanup of mill equipment and mill areas
  • Ensure work areas remain organized and compliant with food/feed safety standards.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Computer skills and ability to learn new software.
  • Have an understanding of safe working conditions and operations of vehicles.
  • Be willing and able to work well with others, to take and give constructive criticism, and to lend a helping hand.
  • Ability to use analytical techniques for problem solving, coordination, and decision making.
  • Mechanical interest, experience, and aptitude.

Educations and Experience:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Agriculture background a plus.
