Occupational Summary

Maintenance Technician II position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the facility including equipment, fixtures, and museum exhibits under the direction of the Director of Facilities & Maintenance. Maintenance Technician II maintains a safe environment for guests and staff. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the Museum remains safe, welcoming, operational, and engaging for children, families, and staff. This position also supports other departments.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete work orders and facility projects as assigned.
  • Maintain museum lighting, electrical, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and proactively identify facility or exhibit issues before operational impact occurs.
  • Painting and wall repair.
  • Maintain HVAC filters.
  • Identify issues and perform repairs to exhibit components, sourcing replacements as needed.
  • Fabrication of exhibit, facility, and programmatic components as requested.
  • Perform routine maintenance of exhibits and facilities.
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down for special events, including evening events.
  • Assist with installation and take-down of travelling exhibits.
  • Assist with landscaping and campus beautification.
  • Assist staff with lost child codes, evacuations, and other safety procedures.
  • Housekeeping duties including, but not limited to, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, cleaning of restrooms & windows, wiping down exhibits, collection and disposal of trash, compost, and recycle inside and outside of the facility, and other duties as assigned
  • Ensure safety standards in compliance with OSHA and museum policies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Supports Museum safety procedures and contributes to a safe environment for children and families.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support team needs across departments
  • Demonstrates professionalism and hospitality while working in guest-facing environments.
  • Expected to perform many assignments independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, construction projects, and/or maintenance of buildings and equipment.
  • Ability to use digital work order systems, email, and basic operational software
  • General building maintenance knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work with hand and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, lighting, painting and electrical maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of housekeeping equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to work on various tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and OSHA standards.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently or supervise small groups.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Good customer service skills.

 

Education/Experience Required

  • Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, or other technical certification preferred. Significant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Three to five years of experience in facility maintenance or related field.

 

Working Conditions

  • Museum facility, outside, and off-site warehouse.
  • Working indoors/outdoors & varying temperatures, ladders/lift
  • Regular schedules may include holidays, nights, and weekends.

 

Physical Demands

  • Standing, lifting, climbing, ability to work on ladders, and in close quarters.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds assisted.

 

Full-time, hourly (Starting at $19.00/hour, commensurate with experience). Regular schedule may include holidays, nights, and weekends.
