General Summary
Maintenance Technician I is responsible for the basic upkeep, repair and preventative maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment. This equipment may include mechanical, automation, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. This role includes addressing basic maintenance requests, conducting minor building repairs (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting) and assisting senior technicians with complex projects, this also can include on-call duties. This position is responsible for product safety, quality and legality.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems, including electrical, plumbing and HVAC
- Operate and maintain operations equipment to include powered industrial and floor scrubbing equipment
- Perform daily, weekly, or monthly maintenance, including watering cells, cleaning terminals, and neutralizing acid. Inspect batteries for damage, leaks, or wear and tears
- Properly manage charging cycles to prevent overcharging and safely swap batteries in electric forklifts using material handling equipment (MHE)
- Maintain a clean and safe battery charging station, including repairing acid spills and pad replacement
- Fixing minor electrical issues (light bulbs, switches), plumbing (leaks, toilets), and carpentry (doors, drywall, locks)
- Maintaining the exterior of the property, including landscaping, snow removal, and trash removal
- Assist senior technicians with more complex projects or automation equipment repairs
- Reading and applying blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to understand system operations
- PLC logic job functions involve basic understanding (often in ladder logic)
- Maintaining detailed repair logs, performance data, and work records, typically using a Maintenance tracking software system
- Ability to use all available resources via hard copies, digital documents and internet searches to aid in troubleshooting and parts sourcing
- Adhering to safety standards such as Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Chemical control, inventory and storage and Arc Flash protocols
- Following safety protocols, using appropriate PPE, and managing hazardous exposures
- Providing after-hours or weekend emergency repair services
- Works under close supervision or following detailed instructions
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required and 1+ years of experience performing mechanical maintenance duties in a manufacturing/packaging environment, or equivalent combination of vocational education and experience preferred
- Ability to work at elevated heights using ladders as well as operating ariel lift equipment for extended periods of time
- Possess basic knowledge of hand and power tools, including a multimeter
- Must have exceptional problem solving and maintenance skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer service driven.
