Sterling Engineering is looking for a Maintenance Technician to support production and maintenance operations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, equipment changeovers, preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, major overhauls, and fabrication of repair parts. The Maintenance Technician will also provide technical support and training to production employees and junior-level Production Mechanics.
Job Duties:
- Perform equipment changeovers based on product, material, size, and packaging requirements.
- Analyze, diagnose, and resolve mechanical and operational problems with automated production equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, and major overhauls on production equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair packaging equipment including unscramblers, fillers, cappers, cartoners, case packers, labelers, bundlers, and process equipment.
- Replace components including bearings, sprockets, chains, belts, limit switches, air cylinders, valves, and other equipment parts.
- Analyze defective production and equipment failures to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Utilize maintenance and production data to identify opportunities for preventive maintenance improvements.
- Record production delays, downtime, maintenance activities, and equipment issues.
- Assist with the setup, utilization, and evaluation of plant maintenance programs.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas while following GMP, OSHA, ISO, and company safety requirements.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with trade-related schooling or demonstrated proficiency in welding, machine shop, industrial electrical, PLCs, pipe fitting, drafting, or related skilled trades.
- Approximately 4 years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting automated production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret machinery and electrical blueprints, schematics, and process and instrumentation diagrams.
- Experience with electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and PLC-based equipment.
- Ability to perform extensive troubleshooting on automated packaging equipment.
- Strong knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring devices.
- Experience with stick welding stainless and mild steel.
- TIG and/or MIG welding experience with stainless and carbon steel.
- Ability to cut, weld, and braze using gas welding equipment.
