The General Maintenance Worker (Maintenance 3) is responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, and upkeep of Rockford Park District facilities, buildings, and equipment. This position requires a broad range of technical abilities and the capacity to work independently on a variety of maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and a commitment to providing safe and functional park district facilities for the community.
Perform general building and facility maintenance including interior and exterior repairs.
Minor kitchen equipment repair; ice machines, reach-in coolers/freezers, stoves etc.
Install, route, terminate, and label low-voltage cabling including Cat5e/Cat6 network cable, coaxial cable, and other structured wiring in support of IT equipment and building systems.
Conduct routine inspections of facilities and report deficiencies to supervisory staff.
Respond to emergency maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components rated up to 120V, including outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, and related low-voltage wiring.
Use a multimeter to test voltage, continuity, and resistance in electrical circuits and components as part of daily troubleshooting and repair duties.
Inspect control panels and electrical wiring to identify faults, worn components, or potential safety hazards; repair or escalate to a licensed electrician as appropriate.
Repair and replace electrical motors, water pumps, sump pumps, and other mechanical equipment to ensure continuous facility operation.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC systems including cleaning coils and filters, lubricating moving parts, checking refrigerant levels, and inspecting ductwork for leaks.
Inspect, calibrate, and replace thermostats, programmable controls, and building automation system (BAS) sensors to maintain proper climate control and energy efficiency.
Perform water treatment checks and preventive maintenance on boilers, cooling towers, and circulating water systems; monitor and record chemistry levels including pH, alkalinity, and conductivity.
Inspect and service air handling units (AHUs), exhaust fans, ventilation equipment, and associated ductwork to ensure proper airflow and indoor air quality.
Identify energy efficiency opportunities and assist with upgrades such as LED lighting retrofits, smart thermostat installations, and duct sealing.
Maintain and service emergency and exit lighting systems; test and replace batteries, bulbs, and fixtures on a scheduled basis.
