Overview:
The maintenance technician is responsible for overall installation, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of equipment/instrumentation related to the unloading, loading, transfer and storage of bulk materials. The maintenance technician will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment to maximize safe and productive operations.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose problems and maintain a variety of material bulk handling equipment.
- Assists and work with the Technician (Maintenance Technician) to diagnose and repair electrical control functions, system logic and mechanical failure issues involving conveyor operation.
- Assist in the transportation and movement of mechanical bulk handling equipment.
- Assembles and installs equipment such as drive motors, conveyors, and pulley assemblies.
- Perform certified stick welding and/or cutting torch operations as needed.
- Aligns machines and equipment for proper operation.
- Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures.
- Repairs and lubricates material bulk handling machines and equipment.
- Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and safety devices on equipment, and makes adjustments.
- Operates a variety of equipment such as cutting torch, welder, forklift, hand tools and electric meters.
- Lubricates moving parts, examines and operates repaired equipment to verify equipment conformance to specifications.
- Performs activities of co-workers as directed.
- Take direction and report to direct supervisor (Terminal Maintenance Supervisor). As a member of the general maintenance crew, perform duties pertaining to the maintenance crew; grease/lubricating bearings, rollers, ship loader, belts, O/H crane bucket, crane cable repairs etc.
- Vessel loading operations are a critical part of our operations at this terminal. You will be required to assist in such operations.
- Willingly train and operate all the terminals equipment and perform the duties and responsibilities of the terminal’s Maintenance positions such as Skid Steers, Excavator, Tele handler, Man Lift and Ship Loading Operations for progression.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required
- A minimum of 1 - 3 years of previous successful or experience industrial maintenance is required.
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers and must be willing to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment.
- Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones, such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
- Must be able to pass a Drug and Alcohol test along with a Hair follicle test.
- Must possess Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations
- Must be able to complete/pass DISA/ISTC background check and testing for entrance into refinery.
- Able to work at different work locations when needed
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally.
- Must work shift schedule as assigned and overtime with little to no notice during the week, weekends, holidays, etc. as needed for operational needs.
- If required must be able to perform shift work, rotating day/night.
- You will be subject to the on-call schedule and must respond to emergency call outs as scheduled
- In order to appropriately perform the essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required.
- Perform housekeeping and general maintenance as required
- Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment for the assigned tasks and report damaged protective equipment and unsafe conditions to Terminal Supervisor
- Must be self-motivated and self-starter.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of experience with Heavy Equipment, Conveying Equipment and material handling systems.
- Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
- Must be able to pass a Drug and Alcohol test along with a Hair follicle test.

Working Conditions:
- Understand and comply with customer and Kinder Morgan's rules and policies.
- Must be willing and able to work as a part of team, take direction from supervisor(s), keep required work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules.
- Physically able to handle large tools, climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend ladders, and should not have a fear of heights
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, reach, etc. for extended periods of time.
- Ability to identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock and loud noise levels.
- This position consists of outside work and adverse weather conditions may apply.
- Must be able to work in dusty environment
- Must wear FRC clothing.
- Must be able to lift 70 pounds
