Maintenance Technician

Location: 6633 W Camelback Rd, phoenix, AZ 85033
Compensation: $18.00 – $26.00/hour (DOE)
Start Date: Summer 2026
Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site

Position Overview

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to support the daily operations of the AMS Camelback Campus. This role is essential in ensuring that the school environment remains safe, clean, functional, and welcoming for students, staff, and families.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of facility maintenance, custodial, and repair tasks, supporting both routine operations and urgent campus needs.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform routine and emergency building maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, painting, minor electrical work, HVAC filter changes, and general upkeep.

  • Maintain classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria equipment, and common areas in safe and working condition.

  • Troubleshoot and repair general building systems and equipment.

  • Respond promptly to facility-related issues reported by staff or leadership.

Preventative Maintenance & Operations

  • Conduct preventative maintenance tasks to ensure long-term functionality of campus facilities.

  • Track, maintain, and reorder custodial and maintenance supplies.

  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and scheduled repairs.

  • Support campus safety by ensuring proper handling of tools, equipment, and materials.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and chemical handling standards.

  • Maintain campus security related to facilities, equipment, and maintenance areas.

  • Support emergency response and safety protocols as needed.

Collaboration & Campus Support

  • Communicate effectively with school leadership regarding maintenance needs and updates.

  • Assist with larger campus projects and coordinate with external vendors or contractors when necessary.

  • Support overall campus operations and additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Competencies

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance, facilities, or custodial repair experience

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Arizona IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair general building systems and equipment

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work both indoors and outdoors as needed

  • Strong communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Experience working in a school or educational environment

  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and compliance standards
