Summary

The instructor is responsible for teaching our "professional credit" Maintenance Technician (CAMT) course in Flagstaff and other locations in Coconino County. Instruction is geared towards general maintenance technicians and uses the certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) materials, developed by the National Apartment Association. The instructor will assist with curriculum and program planning, course support (including preparing in advance for hands-on labs), and collaboration with community and industry partners. The non-credit course gives students all skills necessary to be employed as an apartment maintenance technician, in addition to other positions utilizing similar skills (hotel and motel maintenance, houseboat maintenance, etc.). As part of the course, the students can complete multiple industry certification tests (OSHA, EPA 608, etc.) as well as the National CAMT exam through the NAA. Teaching assignments may include alternative delivery methods (such as hybrid or online instruction), day, evening, and weekend classes, and may be at multiple sites. Part-time faculty must be able to work collegially in a team environment. This is a temporary, non-benefits eligible position. Employment is determined on a course to course, semester to semester basis.

Position Summary

Coconino Community College (CCC) was established in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1991 and serves all of Coconino County, spanning an immense 18,661 square-mile area. Bordered on the north by the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell and on the south by the red rocks of Sedona, Coconino County is home to 150,000 residents and the ancestral lands of several tribal nations.

About the Position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses, adhering to course outlines and student learning objectives.
  • Keep and submit all essential instructional records according to the College calendar including reporting grades and attendance.
  • Follow all college policies and procedures.
  • Notify Extended Learning Dean or Workforce Training Coordinator in case of absence from class. Work to find substitute to cover class when at all possible.
  • Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Utilize Learning Management System (Canvas) to at least the minimum threshold as indicated in college procedures.
  • Check CCC email and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Participate in student assessment and relevant program assessment as directed.
  • Remain current in practices, trends, and research related to discipline area.
  • Follow the same accepted standards of conduct as the full-time faculty as described in applicable administrative procedures which relate to satisfactory service and conduct becoming a faculty member.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of general construction technology, including: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and specific components taught in the maintenance technician course leading to the Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician certification.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of online learning systems.
  • Skill using computers and job-related software programs.
  • Ability to integrate subject area with other related curricula.
  • Ability to support and promote the mission, values, purposes, and strategic plan of the College.
  • Knowledge of the applicable state and federal laws, such as Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Skill in working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student population.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year experience as a maintenance technician, general construction or equivalent experience.
  • CAMT certificate or the ability to attend courses taught in Flagstaff to obtain certifications.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and learning, and willingness to share excitement with CCC community and a commitment to student success.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching in a higher education setting. Experience using learning management systems (i.e. Canvas, Blackboard, etc) and virtual meeting/course platforms (i.e. Zoom, Google Meets). OSHA 510 and 500 training certifications or OSHA certified Instructor in Construction. Universal EPA Certification. Experience working with diverse students and colleagues.

Part-time employees working 20 hours or more per week for at least 20 weeks within the fiscal year (July 1-June 30) are eligible to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System and receive tuition waiver benefits.
