Maintenance Technician

Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to oversee the preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of five industrial slitting and converting machines within our production facility. This role is critical to ensuring maximum machine uptime, product quality, and operational safety across all lines.The ideal candidate possesses deep mechanical and electrical expertise in high-speed and medium-speed web-handling equipment, including razor, score, and shear slitting systems. Working closely with production operators and the engineering team, you will troubleshoot breakdowns, implement reliability initiatives, and maintain complete equipment records.Assigned Equipment OverviewYou will be directly responsible for maintaining five primary and secondary slitting lines:Primary Line 1 (Up to 120" | High-Speed | Razor / Score): Large-format web handling requiring specialized knowledge of wide-web tensioning, dancer roll mechanisms, and pneumatic score tooling.Primary Line 2 (Up to 72" | High-Speed | Razor / Shear): Features high-speed rewind turrets, shear blade clearance setups, and auto-splice systems.Secondary Line 1 (Up to 72" | Medium Speed | Razor / Shear): Focuses on rewind shafts, slitter heads, edge trim systems, gearboxes, and bearings.Secondary Line 2 (Up to 64" | Medium Speed | Score / Shear): Demands precise calibration of score tooling pressure, anvil settings, shear blade clearance, and tension control loops.Primary & Secondary Line 3 (Up to 80" | Ultra High-Speed | Razor / Score / Shear): Multi-function equipment requiring the highest maintenance rigor, dynamic balancing of components, and active management of all three slit systems.Key ResponsibilitiesPreventive & Predictive MaintenanceDevelop, schedule, and execute PM programs across all five slitter lines in alignment with OEM specifications and plant maintenance intervals.Perform routine inspections of blades, arbors, shafts, bearings, drive systems, and web-guiding equipment.Monitor machine performance metrics (vibration, temperature, cycle counts) to detect early indicators of wear or failure.Calibrate slit-width accuracy, blade engagement, and shear clearance settings for razor, score, and shear configurations.Maintain accurate PM records and work orders within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).Corrective Maintenance & TroubleshootingRespond promptly to machine breakdowns, performing root-cause analysis on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures.Execute blade and tooling changeovers (razor, score, shear); verify proper blade geometry, type, and spacing.Troubleshoot web-handling challenges, including tension control, edge guiding, rewind/unwind alignment, and core chucking systems.Repair and replace drive systems including AC/DC motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo drives, and mechanical couplings.Diagnose PLC-controlled systems using ladder logic and HMI fault codes to isolate electrical issues.Restore machines to qualified, run-ready conditions following repairs, conducting trial runs and operator sign-offs.Safety & ComplianceStrictly adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols before performing maintenance on powered equipment.Ensure all safety guards, interlocks, and emergency stops are operational post-repair.Comply with OSHA regulations, plant safety policies, and machine SOPs; participate in safety assessments and incident root-cause investigations.Continuous ImprovementCollaborate with production and process engineering to reduce changeover times, extend blade life, and increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).Maintain updated machine manuals, wiring diagrams, and spare parts inventories.Train operators on basic machine care, early fault detection, and proper tooling handling.Participate in Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and 5S initiatives.QualificationsRequiredEducation: Associate's degree/technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electromechanical Technology, or equivalent practical experience.Experience: 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience specifically on converting, slitting, printing, or web-handling machinery.Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with razor, score, and/or shear slitting; proficiency with AC/DC motors, VFDs, servo drives, and motion control.Schematics & PLCs: Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams, and PLC ladder logic.Safety & Systems: Demonstrated knowledge of LOTO, OSHA standards, and CMMS software.PreferredDirect experience maintaining high-speed industrial slitters (e.g., Ashe, Deacro, Titan, Atlas, or Kampf).Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Fanuc PLC/HMI platforms.Knowledge of web tension control systems, edge guides, and unwind/rewind configurations.Electrical safety (NFPA 70E) or maintenance certifications (CMRP, CCMP).Experience handling diverse web materials (film, paper, foil, laminates, or nonwovens).Working ConditionsRole is based entirely on the active production floor around operating slitting machinery.Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods.Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.Required PPE must be worn to protect against industrial noise, lubricants, dust, and sharp tooling.Shift flexibility may be required (rotating shifts, weekends, or on-call duties) depending on production demands and unplanned downtime.#OS123
