This role focuses on keeping production equipment running safely and efficiently through preventative and reactive maintenance, while supporting operators with equipment setup and changeovers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure consistent operation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of equipment, including gearboxes, conveyors, mixers, chillers, proofers, ovens, and baggers.
  • Work safely with electrical systems up to 480V, following all applicable safety procedures and standards.
  • Rewire, replace, and install motors, including three-phase AC and DC motors, as needed to support production.
  • Assist machine operators with equipment setup, adjustments, and changeovers to support smooth production transitions.
  • Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify equipment components.
  • Maintain approximately a 60/40 split between mechanical and electrical work, adapting to the needs of the operation.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, and related components.
  • Diagnose and repair components such as bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, and related mechanical assemblies.
  • Work with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and PLC-controlled equipment to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Assist with PLC troubleshooting on industrial control systems, including Allen-Bradley platforms, to identify control-related issues.
  • Support a GMP-style production environment by maintaining equipment cleanliness and reliability in accordance with plant standards.
  • Collaborate with a team of maintenance technicians and production staff to prioritize work and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Document maintenance activities as required by site procedures and support continuous improvement of maintenance practices.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience performing both mechanical and electrical maintenance, with work split between the two disciplines (approximately 50/50 or 60/40).
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical components such as bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, and motors.
  • Experience working with electrical systems up to 480V in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to work with three-phase power and AC/DC motors, including motor replacement and wiring.
  • Practical knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repair of associated components.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for production equipment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working as a maintenance technician in an industrial or logistics setting.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills for equipment repair and modification.
  • Familiarity with PLC controls and PLC troubleshooting in an industrial environment.
  • Experience working with Allen-Bradley control systems or similar industrial control platforms.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a food or GMP-regulated environment, preferably bakery, is a strong plus.
  • Previous exposure to a unionized maintenance environment is beneficial.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled systems beyond basic diagnostics is preferred.
  • Experience working with conveyors and automated material handling systems is advantageous.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-throughput production environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with a maintenance team and production staff.
  • Ability to adapt to different shifts and training schedules as needed.

Why Work Here?

You will join a stable manufacturing operation that offers a clear path for professional growth and advancement. After a short period, you become eligible to join a union environment that provides structure, support, and flexibility in choosing overtime before or after your scheduled shift. The organization offers a defined pay progression from 3rd Class Technician to 1st Class Technician, along with opportunities to move into leadership roles such as Maintenance Lead and Maintenance Supervisor. You will benefit from strong training and development opportunities, allowing you to expand your skills in both mechanical and electrical maintenance while building a long-term career in industrial maintenance.

New hires will train on 1st shift (7:00 AM–3:30 PM) before moving to their assigned shift. The maintenance team consists of approximately 15 people, providing a collaborative environment where technicians support each other to keep production running smoothly. The facility operates under GMP-style standards, especially relevant for candidates with food or bakery experience, and uses industrial equipment such as conveyors, mixers, ovens, proofers, chillers, and baggers, along with PLC-controlled systems, VFDs, and three-phase power.
