Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing road and bridge maintenance, grounds maintenance, or custodial maintenance.
Major Duties
- Assists with road excavation, pothole repair, and other road maintenance activities.
- Removes debris from roadways to keep travel safe and accessible.
- Maintains County rights-of-way, including curbs, gutters, driveways, and sidewalks. Mows rights-of-way, cuts and removes trees and limbs, edges sidewalks, and clears leaves and debris.
- Transports equipment, tools, and materials to and from work sites.
- Places cones, barriers, barricades, and safety barrels to maintain safe work areas.
- Operates hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Performs grounds maintenance, landscaping, and lawn irrigation.
- Performs building maintenance, cleans restrooms and facilities, and sweeps and mops floors.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment and completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Maintains daily ice inventory, places orders as needed, and distributes ice to employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of various job-related equipment.
- Skill in the safe and effective use of assigned equipment.
- Skill in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of related experience.
Supplemental Information
Complexity/Scope of Work
- The work consists of a variety of maintenance duties. Inclement weather, heavy traffic, and outdoor conditions contribute to the positions complexity.
- The purpose of this position is to assist with the maintenance of County roads, buildings, grounds, and related facilities. Successful performance helps keep County infrastructure and facilities safe, clean, and well-maintained.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Occasionally
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
- Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
- Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.
Constantly
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Operating machinery and/or power tools.
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Working in low temperatures.
- Working in high temperatures.
- Working in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
- Working in noisy environments.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting and/or standing.
- Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

- Must possess a valid and current Texas Drivers License.
- The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
- This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
Valid Texas Driver's License*
