Basic Job Functions -------------------

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining production tooling and equipment and general facility maintenance according to safety, predictive, and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the Companys business goals and objectives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting and repairing equipment
  • Installing and maintaining production tooling and equipment
  • Performing general facility maintenance
  • Coordinating with outside contractors on all install, maintenance, and repair needs of equipment
  • Reading and interpreting equipment manuals and work orders
  • Monitoring, maintaining, and documenting all preventive maintenance of equipment
  • Performing preventive maintenance on overhead cranes, scissors lifts, and forklifts
  • Assisting on special projects for research and development department
  • Facilitating the orders of supplies and tooling
  • Performing emergency fixes and repairs as needed

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications ---------------------

  • Ability to work 2nd shift hours Monday - Thursday 3:00pm - 1:30am
  • Willingness to train on 1st shift before switching to 2nd shift schedule
  • Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and scissors lifts while following safety guidelines is a must
  • Commercial or industrial electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, CNC, welding, plumbing, and carpentry background
  • Experience operating hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools, general fabrication tools, and various measuring devices
  • Ability to read and interpret reports, work instructions, schematics, and blueprints
  • Must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record
  • Daytrips will be required 2 times a month as well as trips to our other manufacturing facility in Jackson as needed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with MS Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand, squat, kneel, climb stairs, and/or ladders
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment where the noise level is high
  • Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, customers, and/or general public
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as functions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Preferred Qualifications ----------------------

  • Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Programming experience is a huge plus
