The School District of River Falls is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician I to join our Buildings and Grounds team. This position plays a key role in keeping our schools safe, functional, and well-maintained for students and staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- At least one year of hands-on experience in commercial or industrial building maintenance (electrical, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, or related trades strongly preferred).
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide variety of maintenance and repair work including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and repair building systems and equipment to the component level.
- Plan and complete preventive maintenance and work orders as assigned.
- Oversee contractors and vendors to ensure quality work.
- Document work orders, order parts, and manage materials.
- Assist Maintenance Tech. II or other staff as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical theory & principles, commercial plumbing, and building maintenance practices.
- Skills in reading blueprints, electrical schematics and technical manuals, troubleshooting systems, and using hand/power tools safely.
- Experience in an educational setting is helpful but not required.
- Knowledge of:
- Estimating, costing and ordering materials to complete work assignments.
- HVAC operation and principals in a commercial environment; preferably in an educational setting.
- All aspects of Environmental Health & Safety including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines regarding safety practices.
- Electrical principles and theories.
- The methods and techniques required in lifting, moving, stacking, storing and protecting tools equipment and materials.
- The proper use and hazards of chemical materials potentially encountered in the facilities maintenance field.
- Commercial and industrial plumbing systems and operations.
- Lighting fixtures, including multi-power source fixtures, for emergency building egress.
- The principles and practices of building construction, maintenance, security, landscape maintenance and repair; to perform tasks and provide guidance, direction and assistance to other maintenance personnel.
The ideal candidate is a motivated problem-solver with strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safety and quality work. Overtime and occasional shift changes may be required.
