Description

The Maintenance Technician II reports directly to the Assistant Director of Plant Operations and is responsible for efficiently maintaining and repairing buildings and equipment at all VGCC campuses. In addition to repairing architectural components of buildings, this position requires making repairs to plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems.

Salaries

Salaries are determined by considering both the number of years of relevant professional experience and the highest academic degree attained. This approach ensures that compensation reflects an individuals expertise and educational qualifications.

Teleworking

This position is assigned to the VGCC Henderson Campus in Henderson, NC. This position will have to travel to other counties in the college's service as needed.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain and repair general building components, including but not limited to furniture, doors, windows, locks, ceilings, walls, floors, roofs, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and make repairs to plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Install electrical circuits.
  • Perform minor painting as required.
  • Troubleshoot and make repairs to custodial and housekeeping equipment.
  • Procure repair materials and supplies.
  • Use electronic work order system to document all work activities.
  • Adjust/Monitor/Schedule building automation controls (BAS) as required.
  • Work with other maintenance personnel on projects and task.
  • Assist groundskeeping staff in preparing for special events.
  • Remove snow from sidewalks, bridges, steps, and walkways.
  • Remove litter from buildings and grounds as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Plant Operations and/or the Director of Plant Operations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years of previous experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional facility maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license with approval required by the College's Liability Insurance Carrier.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • EPA Refrigerant Certification.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds,
  • Work from ladders or mechanical lifts
  • Work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and repetitive movements.
