Position Summary:

Under general supervision of a Recreation Services Supervisor, this position performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of grounds, facilities, buildings and/or landscape areas that are part of the Lakes assigned to Recreation Services. The Maintenance Technician is assigned to one or more areas within the division, such as Parks/Community Services, Lakes, Landscape, and/or Trails.

Essential Duties:

  • Operate wood chippers, mowers, trimmers in the care and maintenance of assigned areas
  • Use and maintenance of hand and power tools.
  • Help maintain public facilities and grounds; pick up trash, debris and tree limbs; trims bushes, trees, and shrubs; maintain lawns and flower beds in a trimmed, weed-free manner; cleans, mops, and sanitizes public restrooms; restocks paper towels, toilet paper and soap as necessary; cleans up and tears down after special events.
  • Perform minor and preventive maintenance and repairs on a variety of assigned equipment; maintains irrigation systems; sweeps sidewalks and parking lots; grooms sports fields and marks appropriately; rakes weeds and grass; performs, snow removal duties; performs safety inspections on recreational facilities and equipment.
  • Transport waste debris to transfer station for proper disposal.
  • Assist in the set up, preparation and clean up for special events
  • Schedule and coordinate work crews
  • Analyze operational problems and make recommendations to correct or improve procedures
  • Keep records, files, logs, ledgers, etc. of activities in order to provide accurate documentation of work performed or information that can easily be retrieved
  • Compiles data for administrative analysis and prepares reports or summaries of data from records
  • Serves as a representative of the City of Prescott
  • Issue citations to the public.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Minimum three (3) years previous experience in general maintenance and/or construction required. Must have excellent customer service skills. Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:

Must obtain Arizona Class A CDL within six (6) months of hire date. Must possess a valid Arizona State Applicators license (Turf and Ornamental & Right of Way Categories) or obtain within 12 months of hire. May be required to successfully complete an extensive Police background check for citation writing prior to employment. Night, evening, weekend and split shifts may be required.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Sufficient to effectively perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicles as needed
  • Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person, over the radio and by telephone.
  • Must possess ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, perform repetitive lifting, climbing ladders, stooping, bending, and twisting and capable of lifting 6up to 50 pounds
  • Job hazards present may include adverse weather conditions, confined space, high traffic areas, exposure to raw sewage, chemicals, rotating equipment, noise, high-medium-low voltage, and other potentially hazardous environments.
